Nj/ca disability info

since you're all a wealth of knowledge maybe someone can help me. I recently moved to ca in March with my current job that is hq in NJ. Today my HR rep told
me that I'm not eligible for nj benefits and ca is iffy bc I just started paying taxes here. So I go on the NJ disability FAQ page and the first question is Do I need to live in nj to get temp disability ? The answer was no, as long as you paid into disability taxes the year prior. Wouldn't that mean im
covered under NJ? I'm so confused by this. If anyone has any clarification / similar situation please let me know. Any info is appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Nj/ca disability info

  • I assume you lived in NJ prior to moving to CA? It seems pretty cut & dry from what you posted on the website- as long as you paid into the NJ system for the previous year you should be able to get paid out from the same system. I would trust the website over your HR person- I ended up dealing with hours and hours of paperwork confusion and hassle with my leave last time because my HR person was incorrect about a few things.
  • Yes sorry I lived in nj and have worked with my company for over 8 years.

  • For CA, you only need to have made $300 in wages to qualify. I'm not certain in what time frame, but I'd look into that, too.
