GTKY: Musical Babies

If you had to name this baby after your favourite song/artist/band what would your baby be named? And your other children? What are some names you love because of songs/artist that you may or may not use?

I would have a Jesse (Jesse's Girl is my fave GP song), a Layla (Eric Clapton please) and a Molly (Metallica's Whiskey in the Jar.) This baby would still be nameless because I don't have any favourite songs at the moment I can pull a name from.

Love the songs "For the Summer" and "Jolene" by Ray Lamontagne, so Summer and Jolene could work for a girl.

Also, love Adele.

Our second runner-up name for our girl was Caroline, but I DESPISE "Sweet Caroline". We still want to use that name if we have another girl in the future, but I will destroy anyone that tries to sing that song to her in my presence! 

For boy names, I like Adam Levine (and duh, he's gorgeous) and Ben Harper (Ben was my first choice for a boy name).

I like lots of other artists/bands more than some that I mentioned, I just can't think right now, because pregnancy.

I really like the name Layne for a boy, after Layne Staley from Alice in Chains.

For a girl? I'm not really sure. I really, really, REALLY love music but I also can't seem to think of anything at the moment.

I really liked the name Ellie as in Ellie Goulding. DH said no go though haha

@jlmartinez517 @joleri23 haha I LOVE "Sweet Caroline!" It was the closing time song at my favorite bar in grad school. I spent too many nights standing on tables belting that out. But yeah I could never name my kid that now. AH!

I stink with anything fun related to music. I have no "favorite" group or song or anything... Just a general style I like.

We named our cat Layla and everyone thinks it's because of the Eric Clapton song. I've never heard that song.

@theshannondee I probably hate the song so much because I grew up in MA and went to school in Boston where all the drunken Red Sox fans would shout the lyrics all the time - so annoying!

Cosmic+Love

I love the name Marcus (Marcus Mumford), but that was quickly vetoed. Two times.
And my ultimate guilty pleasure girl name is Gretel (like from the Sound of Music).

@joleri23 Where in MA? I'm on the cape and have the same feelings about that song.

It would depend on my mood my musical likes are very varied. Florence (And The Machine), John (Mayer), Wiz (Khalifa), Luke (Bryan), are the very first things that come to mind.

@Kellyj103 We're going with Layla, too! But I LOVE me some Clapton.

People ask if we're naming her after the Clapton song, which we aren't. But when people ask how we're going to spell the name, I reply, "The Clapton way".

@Eko14 I can't wait till I can see that man play live. 

At first I thought this post was going to be about naming your child after musicals, to which I would probably name her Violet from Side Show. Another favorite is Maureen from Rent.

Hm. I don't really have favorite bands/groups much, I love a lot of music. However most of the artists I think of I hate their names, or their name is TOO iconic. Maybe Stevie, as in Nicks, but as the full legal first name for a girl. I would hate it for a guy, lol. I just don't like traditional names. Maybe I could do a Joel for a boy, for Billy Joel? Even Joel is a little too common for my preferences though.
