I was leaning toward Helena for our daughter, but hubby now likes Ella. I liked Ella to begin with, but couldn't sell it to him. Now he seems to have changed his mind. He says he also likes Ella because it works as the Turkish name, Ela (I'm Turkish). But I do still love Helena.
What at do you ladies think? We pronounce Helena like Huh-lay-nah. Not the other (uglier) pronunciations. Lol!
Helena for sure. Ella is quite popular these days (which I personally don't like) and Helena is a more elegant name to grow into. Ella is cute, but sounds slightly childish to me.
Helena for sure. I'm actually trying to get hubby to agree to it as a middle name. If we hadn't had baby's first name picked out for ages, I'd be pushing for it as her first name. However, we prefer the Helen-uh pronunciation as it's a family name for me.
I don't love Helena but I don't dislike and I prefer the pronunciation that you like. What about Elena? Sounds like Helena without the H and could easily use Ella as a nickname. I think Ella is a really cute nickname but I don't prefer it as a first name and with it being so popular, I think having a less common full name to fall back on might be nice.
Maybe change the spelling if you want it to be pronounced the way you want, otherwise it will definitely be pronounced hell-uh-nuh. My name is Helaina, pronounced the same as you like. I like my name and have had many compliments throughout my life.
