What age did you make the transition and how smooth was it? My DS will be 2 on Saturday and has been showing signs of wanting to sleep in the "big boy" bed. Well the room is done. He iswas VERY excited about it and has slept in the new room/bed successfully...once. Since then, we go thru all the routine of bedtime, but when its time for me to leave and close the door, it's instant meltdown. He is at the door and screaming for me or my husband. After a few small battles he eventually he ends up in his crib. We have "the blanket", every stuff animal he wants, a bright nightlite and I have even gotten him his own flashlight and nothing is working. I don't want to press the issue. Any advice?
Re: Switch to the "big boy" or "big girl" bed. What age?
No advice - we're planning on keeping the girls in their cribs until they are sixteen.
Seriously, we're planning on holding out until they are 2.5 so that we can get through the summer in cribs at the family cottage which we visit frequently at during the summer.
I know several people who've had success with "super nanny" techniques.
My DD was 13 mos when we converted her crib into a "transitional bed." The transition for us has been incredibly smooth. I think that it worked out so well, though, because we did it when we moved into our new place in PA (we just moved up here from FL at the beginning of December), rather than putting the crib together as, well, a crib.
DD loves that she can get up and down by herself, and she still waits for us to come and get her out of bed in the morning (though I have a feeling that won't be the case for much longer). She's fallen out of bed a couple of times (within the first couple of days), but I think that has more to do with getting used to not having a full side rail on the outside edge than anything.
