Baby Names

Name Ronan's sister!

Hi! I am 20 weeks pregnant with a baby girl, and H and I cannot seem to agree on names at all!!
My list is: Olive, Poppy, Cora, Willow, Maya, kind of like Noelle, maybe as a MN?

His: Kori, Ellie, Abbi, Jenni, Riley, Lily, Erin...

So, I like older, unusual type names, and he like really simple, normal names.  :s

He said he "sometimes" likes Cora, so maybe a middle name suggestions for that which are more his style?
And I like Ellie, don't love it, but I could get used to it and love it if we found a good middle name that wasn't so normal sounding (without being far out/weird/misspelled mishmash).
I've tried using names from both our lists for FN and MN, but they don't seem to go at all!

Suggestions welcome!! Totally new ideas or combos you think sound good!

I really think a name *like* Madison would be a good MN for Ellie, I like the 3 syllable sound, but Madison seems meh to me.
Also, Olivia is not a good substitute for Olive! ;)
Thanks! Hopefully we can have a name agreed on and loved in the next 20 weeks!!

Oh, I am not huge into nicknames, so simple first names that don't really shorten much are optimal, but I'm open to anything!

Okay, naming experts, let me have all your ideas from your name brains! :)

Re: Name Ronan's sister!

  • And forgot to mention, that unless it's Ellie from his list, or Cora from mine, the others are out as far as FNs go, he pretty much hates everything else of mind, oops.
And I think the rest of his are very boring.
    See our problems here??!! Ack!
  • Ellie is so everywhere right now and seems really nicknamey as a given

    Maybe Eliza, Elizabeth or Eleanor?

    Cora is nice

most of the others if I'm being honest just don't compare to Ronan which is awesome

    Cara
Corrine he could use a nn Cori

    Hannah
    Juniper
    Clementine
    Josephine

  • I'd read that Ellie was really popular, but haven't met one yet, lol. And I agree that it sounds more like a nickname, but I don't like any of the full names associated with Ellie. DH likes Eleana. But, if I'm going to name a girl just so I can call her Ellie, why not just name her Ellie to start with?!
Thanks for the suggestions, none of them really jump out at me, but I'll show them to DH and maybe he'll like find one that is "the name". :)

    Lucy
    Sadie
    Ruby
    Molly
    Margot
    Tessa
    Anya
    Heidi

  • Noelle nn Ellie? Or is your man that against Noelle?
  • Cora Noelle nn Cori ! Win Win
  • I love PP suggestion of Cara.  I just cant seem to get myself to like Cora.

    Also like Erin, Ellie, Willow
  • I am so over Ellie. I think it sounds silly and can't imagine what these girls are going to go by when they're 35 and stuck with a baby name. Frankly, I can't even picture a 12 yo Ellie unless it was a nn. But that's precisely why you give her a full name and call her Ellie if you think it's cute. Elena or Eloise are my favorites in that respect.

Your list is far superior to his so I think you're on the right track. Since your tastes are so different maybe try taking a section of the SS popular names list and each of you highlight what you like and then see if you have any matches. Just avoid names that belong with boys... Madison (not that I could picture it on a boy anymore), Riley etc

  • Thanks, everyone! We just went over the top 1000 names list last night, and came up with a couple options!
He does like boy "girl" names!!  :| Like: Blake, Riley, Etc. Bleh! Totally not happening!!

What about a girl name that isn't quite as delicate sounding, like Blair or Sloan?

Yes! He actually liked Blair, which fits my naming style of short and simple! I have a mental block because of someone that I knew growing up, I'm kind of tossing it around in my head and trying to get over that impression!

I adore Blair, especially with a 3-syllable middle name like Elizabeth or Catherine.
  • What about Eloise?
  • My sister is named Elly and is getting her PhD. So it doesn't sound childish to me. However, her given name is Elise.
