Cora to honor family named Laura?

Im curious if people think Cora could be in honor of or a nod to a family member Laura?  Additionally my name starts with a C so it's kinda my name combined with Laura to get Cora.

Any other suggestions to honor Laura or Ellen or Frances. Looking for something not too frilly. Older DD has a southern sounding double name. No ideas for middle yet. If we could get a first name to honor family the middle could be anything.  Or maybe do it the other way with a southern first name and a family middle name. (Can you tell how lost we are?)

Re: Cora to honor family named Laura?

  • I like Cora but wouldn't make an honoring connection. Personally if you want to honor I vote use the actual
    name in the middle spot

  • I think Cora to Laura is a stretch, although Cora is a lovely name.  I probably would just pick a family name for a middle name and use whatever you like for the first name.  Laura would be a really nice middle name (obviously Cora Laura wouldn't work together though).

  • Cora Ellen or Cora Frances would honor one of the other ladies but not Laura (it doesn't really connect). Or you could use Laura with either middle name.

Other first names I'd more closely associate with your family members are Lauren, Francine, Francesca, Eleanor, Helen.
  • I can't see how Cora honors Laura. I would either use Laura, Ellen, or Frances as a first or middle name to honor them.

  • Agree with pp, Cora from Laura doesn't really connect. Laurel or Lauren work. Ellen could go to Ella, Ellie, Elle, or even Elsie (a little stretch). Might be easiest to pick a fn you love and use a family name in the middle spot.
  • I think you should use Laura or Ellen or Frances.
  • Cora doesn't really honor Laura to
    me. I like Ellen.

  • Cora and Laura are 2 entirely different names so I wouldn't see how Cora would be honoring a Laura.

  • Never understood wanting to honor someone and at the same time tell them "but your name wasn't good enough." Good intentions but it comes off all wrong. Other ideas are to branch off her interest/occupation/hobby. That would be less of a stretch than using a name that only rhymes.
