~ Baby Shower Thread! ~

edited March 2016 in June 2016 Moms
As we are all entering or already in our 3rd Trimesters I thought it would be fun to start a shower thread where we shared pictures, themes, favorite memories and/or gifts from our showers.

Some ideas on what to share (borrowed from May 16 BMB!)
Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?
What items are you most excited about on your registry?
If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items?
If you've had your shower already, what baby essentials do you still need to buy?
Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
Anything else fun you'd like to include!

*Edited to add this is not meant to exclude anyone having a sprinkle for any subsequent children, this is meant to share & be fun so don't feel judged for having a party to celebrate your baby! Tell us about it!

Also- if you know what you're wearing to your shower, post a pic!

Share away!

Re: ~ Baby Shower Thread! ~

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?
My shower is in about a month. 4/17

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
The travel system (Chicco Bravo) and the 4moms pack n play

    Any fun/novelty items?
Haven't had my shower yet, but one of my closest friends already gave us a set of nursery books :)

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
He probably won't show up till after it's over, as he doesn't really enjoy things that put him in a spotlight lol. I'm hoping though that I can get some of his buddies to come our one weekend for a bbq/dude shower lol.

-Shower is scheduled for the first weekend in May.

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
-Honestly, anything would help.  I really want to get my Pack N Play set up since that is where baby will be sleeping for the first month or two.

If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items?
    -N/A

If you've had your shower already, what baby essentials do you still need to buy?
    -N/A

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
-H will be there as will a number of the male spouses of my family/friends.  Honestly, I think it is going to be more of a large party than "my" shower.  I just hope it doesn't turn into something stressful.
  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?  I had mine this past weekend, March 19

What items are you most excited about on your registry?  I was most excited about the cloth diapers and the stuff for the nursery.

If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items?  My favorite things I got were a handmade quilt and little crocheted baby cowboy boots from my Aunt.(I'll post pics later they're still on my phone). She put a lot of effort into them and they came out amazing!

If you've had your shower already, what baby essentials do you still need to buy?  I still need a lot of things including cloth diapers (people insisted on getting regular ones even tho I had cloth on my registry), I mostly got clothes (that weren't on my registry). Thankfully my Mom got us the crib...so at least 1 big ticket item is out of the way.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? H was there for the beginning then once everyone got there he went out with his Uncle and my Dad then came back as things were wrapping up. I was SO happy and relieved when he was there because I was SO overwhelmed with everything and he helps relax me and made it easier for me to talk to people.

Overall, I enjoyed my shower and it felt great so many people came to celebrate our baby. I'm just not big on being the center of attention and was in pain most of the day so I kinda secluded myself and sat watching everyone talk among themselves and would talk to my friends and family that came to sit with me. It was a bit of an overwhelming experience tho...

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? April 10th, coming soon!

What items are you most excited about on your registry? Like @sdlindenberg , I'm really excited about the Chicco Bravo travel system (my mom was kind enough to get it for us) and just the little things. Can't wait to fill up the nursery!

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? He will go early with his brother (SIL and MIL are hosting) and help them set up, then they'll go off and hang out with my niece for the duration and then come help break down, pack up stuff. I would like for them to stay since I'm not the only one who is going to be a new parent...I kinda hate how it all revolves around the soon to be mom...sorry, I don't really like being the center of attention.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! I love that the shower will be at a nature center that I used to frequent a lot to go bird watching. There is a photography exhibit on display in the room and it will really add to the ambiance. And my nursery/shower theme is woodland animals so it all ties in together.

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?

    Yup! April 23rd.

What items are you most excited about on your registry?

My mom has literally bought the majority of our big ticket items with the exception of an extra car seat base. So there's only little things left on my registry - bottles, burp rags, hygiene stuff and the like. So I'm excited to see all of the little cute outfits I'm sure I'll score.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?

He'll likely have to work so he might come early to help my mom set up and maybe say hello to everyone before he takes off. But I'm honestly glad he probably can't be there. Both his mom and step mom will be there and if he's there his step mom will make things very uncomfortable.

Anything else fun you'd like to include!

I'm staying 99.9% out of my shower, but I did manage to convince my mother to nix some games. I hate shower games and I really don't want to play them. I managed to whittle her down to gift opening Bingo and the "guess how big mom's belly is" yarn game. I'll take it.

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? My mom is throwing me a baby shower Sunday May 1st back where I grew up in NJ. I am also having a very small get together/lunch with my friends where I live now in North Carolina. Im nervous traveling so far for my big shower though and wishing we planned it in April sometime.

What items are you most excited about on your registry? Hmm.. probably my jogging stroller or pack and play!

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Depends on if he is able to make the trip with me to NJ he is active duty military so his leave may not get approved. If it is and he comes he will most likely hangout with my dad and grandpa then show up at the end.

Anything else fun you'd like to include: My mom pretty much planned the entire thing, as far as I know she has a few games planned like tie a string around moms belly etc.

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? May 1st! Need to get the invites out this week.

What items are you most excited about on your registry? We just bought our rocker off the registry, oops! And our folks have reserved the nursery crib and dresser. So now is have to say blueberry AIOs, kickee pants onesies (go look at kickee pants!), and any homemade gifts we receive.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Yup. Want him there.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! I wasn't sure I wanted a shower, but am looking forward to it. Hoping it will be very small and very nice!
  • Yay!! I love this thread! I can't wait to see people's pictures and hear about the themes!
  • @HBamama2B my nephew had kickee pants and they were glorious!!! So my sister has already purchased a bunch for little girl but won't tell me which ones so I don't order the same ones lol. But why can't they make them for adults??

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? April 16th. It will be here before I know it.

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
Everything! Our parents bought the crib and dresser. So besides that we have nothing.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
DH will be there the whole time along with other male family members.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! My mom, SIL and friends are planning everything. I think they may be doing a carnival theme which will be cute. I'm excited for the day to come. We'll be announcing what we're having so I won't have to keep that secret any more.

I wish! I'd wear them 24/7. So friggin soft! (And hypoallergenic / durable / adorable, quadruple win!) I get at least one kickee pants for any of my friends having babies. Now it's my turn and I need ALL the kickee pants, lol. All the patterns are so adorable! I can't wait to hear what you receive! :)

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?

April 30th kind of nervous that its so late
What items are you most excited about on your registry?

My mom and MIL have bought the crib, mattress, and dresser but I still need a pack and play, car seats/travel system, rocker, etc.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? DH will attend the whole time to play mediator between my SIL and my family. SIL is super dramatic and bratty and already has thrown a fit about not being the main one in charge.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! I am really hoping we actually get things off our registry plus clothes. DH's side does not really buy people gifts for events they just like to come eat and drink.

  • @knw007 I'm pretty sure I commiserated with you in the MIL thread that your MIL was probably my H's stepmom. If it wasn't you then this is awkward but... sounds like it here too! For my bridal shower her and her FOUR daughters chipped in to get me a broken picture frame from Ross that they left the price tag on. It was $12. I threw it away.

They also drank the majority of the booze and were the only group to take leftovers with them.

I'm interested to see what they bring for the baby... lol
  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? We are having one shower for friends & family on April 23rd.
What items are you most excited about on your registry? The cloth diapers although I'm not sure that they will be a popular purchase. Other than that probably the stroller or bassinet.
If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items? I haven't had mine yet but I have several friends that are very crafty who I know will make homemade gifts and I can't wait to see them!
Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?  Ours is a couples shower so DH and most of the other spouses will be there.
Anything else fun you'd like to include! I am really excited about our shower. I am sure that it breaks all kinds of etiquette rules to have one bigger shower with friends, family, and co-workers (and *gasp* MEN!) but we did the same thing for our wedding shower and it was a lot of fun. It works out well because the hostesses are a mix of family members, friends, and co-workers too. We just have to keep the drinks flowing ;)
  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? April 23

What items are you most excited about on your registry? Since this is my second shower (I know, super tacky, but since it's twins my friends insisted) I only registered for the discounts and told the host not to include it on the registry.  I'll be excited to see any clothes people pick out and of course, diapers would be wonderful!!

If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items? N/A
If you've had your shower already, what baby essentials do you still need to buy? N/A

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? He will come at the end to thank everyone and help me get the presents home!

Anything else fun you'd like to include!
My friends are trying to come up with a twin theme, last I heard they liked "Babies Squared".  With my son, my sister used the poem "Frogs and Snails and Puppydog tails, that's what little boys are made of" for the theme.  It was so cute!!

I feel so guilty having a second shower but it will be small.  I'm excited to celebrate with all my friends and family!

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? Yep, either April 16th or 17th with family, and I think my church is throwing me one sometime after that.
What items are you most excited about on your registry? Pretty much everything, other than a few basics we need all we can get! Hope someone wants to get us our stroller at least.
Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? I want him to attend, I don't like being the center of attention, plus its not just my son, it's his too.
Anything else fun you'd like to include! I'm hoping my sister sticks with a theme like our nursery will be..we'll see

What items are you most excited about on your registry? Nothing in particular, I'm mostly excited to be having a shower to celebrate this baby and that I've had an awesome friend throw it for me.
Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Nope, he'll be hanging out at home with a couple guys, drinking beer.

  • @ahernandez16 yea it was me. For our wedding apparently my mom saw my FIL take all of the Blue bell ice cream and pack it in a cooler and take it when he left. Keep in mind the leftovers were supposed to go to us including the blue bell lol. They threw me a bridal shower and it is the same thing they are doing now with the baby shower.they want to spend no money at all which hey I am not knocking you for saving money but if you cant afford it don't offer or even try.  $12 dollar frame wow yea I would have thrown that away as well. My in laws pick and choose what they want to spend money on and usually it is my 25 yr old SIL that gets all the love an attention since she still lives at home. I will have to keep you updated on what they do for the shower.
  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when? The one for family and friends is April 30th, and then I think my co workers are planning one sometime, but I don't know when.

What items are you most excited about on your registry? It's hard to narrow it down, but probably the pack n play, and the exersaucer, simply because those are expensive. We bought all the big furniture for his nursery already.

If you've had your shower already, what were your favorite items you received? Any fun/novelty items? I haven't but I know a few different people will be making handmade gifts, like blankets, hats, etc so I'm very excited to see those.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Dh will probably be there to help set up, and then come back at the end to help load up all the gifts. I would prefer he be there because I know I'll be huffing, puffing, and sweating my way thru the gift opening, but I understand it's not his thing.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! I'm getting really excited about the shower, but a little nervous about how MIL is going to behave. Up till this past weekend she had expressed no desire to be apart of it, then Saturday asked if she should write a check to my mom since she's not allowed to do anything else. I have a feeling she'll either strut around like she did everything herself or spend the whole day sabotaging my mom and telling everyone my mom excluded her. Fingers are crossed tho, and I'll try not to borrow trouble before it happens :)

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?
My mom and sister are hosting one for me - April 2nd :)

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
I'm really excited about the Graco travel system we requested. I'm looking forward to staying active and taking baby out and about with us. Also looking forward to the quilt that my mom made, baby carrier and various nursery items.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
Nope, this one is just the ladies so H will likely be out and about with the guys.

Anything else fun you'd like to include!
Mostly just looking forward to seeing my family and friends! My cousin who is due in July will be there, and some really good friends that I haven't seen in ages. I'm just really looking forward to celebrating this special time with the important women in my life.
  • Are you having/did you have a shower? If so, when?
My mom & MIL are throwing one for me, but it's not until June 5...eek!

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
The 4moms MamaRoo, but I love all the things we've registered for.
Non-registry related, though, I know I will get some really great hand-made items. My mom makes a quilt for all showers & I am so excited to see what she has in store for me.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
I imagine he will drop me off (it will be at his parents, outside by the pool), & then show up towards the end with flowers. He did that for my bridal shower, so I imagine he thinks it's "required" for others.

  • Are you having/did you have a shower? We're having a jack and jill shower on May 7th

What items are you most excited about on your registry? I'm really excited about our stroller and car seat. DH is most excited about the diaper genie.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Yes, I decided early on that I didn't want a traditional shower and since it's his baby too, why shouldn't DH be there for the celebration too. So we are having a jack and jill shower.

Anything else fun you'd like to include! The shower will be held at a local brewery and one of our favorite BBQ places will be catering. It's going to be more of a party than a shower and a chance for us to celebrate with our closest friends and family. I'm so glad our parents, who will be hosting, were on board with this style. Also my sister is super crafty so I can't wait to see what she comes up with for decor. Everything at my bridal shower was amazing!

  • @DeePaddy24  (I think we are due on the same day, end of June) wow I don't feel so bad anymore since I'm pretty sure my shower will be the weekend before Memorial day. I was going to say some of these ladies could have their baby before I have my shower.

What items are you most excited about on your registry?
We need everything, so whatever people want to give us is great with me. If I had to pick something it would be decorations for the nursery (bedding, curtains, etc).

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end?
I told my mom I wanted a shower with both men and women, so yes my husband will be attending. Like others have said, this is his baby too.

My bridal shower was just women, and my (now) husband had to work that day, but I want something more low key this time. And thanks for reminding me to tell my mom I do not want that stupid guess how big the belly is game. (No offense to those that will have it at their shower or like it).

There's too much to comment on here, but it sounds like everyone is going to have a really nice shower!

Can I hijack this thread with a question? What are some cheaper (e.g. $25 and under) but actually useful things I can put on a registry? I haven't put any big ticket items on the registry, but I still feel like the average price is running high. I've exhausted the list of things I can think of and I'm trying to be price-conscious and minimal. I don't want a bunch of stuff we'll never use. Anyway, cheaper things that I have registered for receiving blankets, bibs, nursing pads and milk storage bags, hooded towels, travel wipe packages, two crib sheets and two changing pad covers, a nose frida and an infant thermometer. Am I missing anything obvious? I've been warned against registering for pacifiers and bottles in case the baby is fussy.

lac1252, it sounds like we are having very similar showers!

Are you having/did you have a shower? We're having a co-ed shower on May 15th.

What items are you most excited about on your registry? A kitten Wubbanub pacifier. Which I'm 99% sure my best friend snatched up the moment she got the registry invite. We haven't registered for any clothes in particular (team green) so I'm excited to see what (if any) clothes we get.

Did/will your DH/SO attend, the whole time, or show up at the end? Absolutely yes. I hate being the centre of attention and I wouldn't go to a shower without my significant other. And it was important to us to have an inclusive shower where people could bring their partners, spouses and kids.

  • @catherinekate - clothes, bath stuff, baby tub, nursing supplies, bottles, bibs, blankets, a walker (mine was 30 or 40), diapers, first aid kit, diaper cream, pacifiers, swaddled, sheets, changing pad & covers, toys, teething toys, books, an elbow pad for the car seat to carry it, a car seat canopy, wipes, wipe warmer, bottle warmer, hamper, hangers, storage baskets

  • @catherinekate awesome, shower twin! Hope it is fabulous for you! As far as lower ticket items to add to your registry you could include plain white onesies, socks, mittens, comb/brush, health kit, hangers, books, teethers. We did end up putting bottles and pacifiers on our registry, about 3-4 different types of each. That's what all my mom friends suggested doing and most of the big stores are good at letting you return the ones baby doesn't end up liking.
