Infertility

Tell me about your ovarian cyst experiences!

So, they found a cyst in my ovary yesterday at my CD1 US, and cancelled my planned egg retrieval for this month.  Boo.  Have never had a cyst before.  Anyone have experience with this?? Did yours go away on it's own?? Did you have it aspirated?  They will call me Tuesday with a plan, but I am wondering about other women's experiences....
Me: Age 38  Husband: Age 39
Chemo killed my ovaries
Currently:1 female embryo frozen at blastocyte stage, graded 6AA with a BRCA1 mutation
4/16 ER cancelled on CD7: 1 follicle on L/ 0 follicles on R
Now planning FET 7/6/16
Also starting ER in June (my sister is donating eggs), and will try for a boy/second pregnancy

Re: Tell me about your ovarian cyst experiences!

  • I'm sorry to hear this! This same thing happened to me and it was SUCH a bummer. Mine showed up in early November at my baseline US. They had me take a few months off and put me on an estrogen priming protocol the 6 days before the cycle that we decided to start with. When I did my baseline for that month the cyst was gone. Hang in there! They'll figure out something for you.
  • *bfp mentionned*
I had a laparoscopy for endo in July, and was okayed to start stim and IUI in August. I was told I had a cyst on CD3, but given the go ahead  to start meds because it wasn't producing estrogen. It eventually went away within a few days, and I got my bfp that month. It seems that some RE are a lot more conservative than others when they see cysts.

  • I have permanent cysts due to Endo lol. A 2 inch on my left ovarie and a 1 inch on the right ovarie. I'm had them removed via surgery before, but they just come back. I'm had a couple normal cysts as well that come and go. My Doctor knows and we go forward as planned. I've done two (unsuccessful) rounds of IVF now with those silly things, but they do take up a lot of space on my ovaries where follicles then cannot grow. So I can understand why a doctor would want to wait for them to go away.

I just don't have that option. Surgery would make them go away but that also means losing, more, or my ovarie and egg reserves to do so. We just work with what we got ;)

  • I had a similar experience to @KidShrink - saw a cyst at the baseline, but it wasn't producing estrogen, so I went ahead with the IUI cycle.  I had gotten cysts before, and I think they were only painful if they ruptured and there was free fluid. Always resolved on their own.

I went today for my CD3 baseline and they saw two small cysts on my left ovary (don't know the size). Luckily my RE wasn't concerned and we're going ahead as planned for this month, switching to letrozole after two Clomid cycles.
  • After my IUI I started having pain, called the doc and said I thought I had a cyst, sure enough, two of 'em. Doc said they'll absorb on their own and to just relax so my ovary doesn't get twisted. It's not fun at all.
