Strained (I hope) Ab Muscle

I hate to be whiney, but I needed to vent somewhere. yesterday we had a repairman over to the house and when he arrived I bent down and picked up my dog to get her out of the way.  Later in the day, I noticed a sharp stabbing pain right beneath my breast bone / at the top of my fundus. I thought at first it was either the baby kicked me hard (as I have received a lot of kicks to my ribs lately) or gas (because, well my stomach is the size of an acorn these days). But after laying down for like 2 hours the pain was still there - only when I move, especially when I bend over of reach across my body.  I called my dr today and she things its probably a strained (and hopefully not torn) ab muscle.

Now I have had some bad muscle strains already in this pregnancy, but they were due to my bout of bronchitis and coughing, and they were when I was much smaller (back in January).  I am really worried that this won't heal before I go into labor (I'm 37 weeks and 3 days). My plan is to be unmedicated for labor, but if this is still super sore it may compound contraction pain to a point where I can't handle things. Hence my whining - it seems silly to be so worried / annoyed by this, but I am.

Re: Strained (I hope) Ab Muscle

  • I have a sore spot on my left side near my rib. Turns out it's LO sticking his butt out so much. It only hurts with certain movements or if he decides to get a little crazy in there. So far my contractions have not made it worse.

  • This happened to me. I tried lying down and staying still, and it didn't help at all.

Taking a nice warm bath actually helped it go away completely. Maybe that'll work for you?

  • I have been having a similar pain for the past 4 weeks, it feels like my stomach is tearing. The baby is huge and I have too much fluid which can make things uncomfortable. I figure it just goes along with the stretching and ligament pain. It legit feels like something is burning my skin sometimes it hurts so bad, and I've yet to find anything that makes it go away. If you do find something that helps, definitely let me know. At least we are finally approaching the end where we get to meet our little ones!

So it pain has gotten somewhat better but I've ba usually tried to stop bending as much as possible. My skin felt like it was burning the first two days, but I've found lots of oil/ body butter has helped that.
Mostly using a heat pack and taking 1 Tylenol mid day has helped me. Hopefully it doesn't get worse, and yes with basically 2 weeks u till my due date I look forward to meeting my LO.

  • I have had something similar to that, but next to my belly button. Last week my cousin was pressing really hard on my stomach "to get the baby to move" and it has hurt ever since...like unless I'm laying down, I'm almost in tears. My DR said it's most likely a torn muscle in my stomach but we're doing an US tomorrow just to be safe.

Oh no - I hope all is ok. I think because this is basically above my uterus my dr isn't too concerned. The pain is far less now than a week ago but I still get stabs. The only good thin is that because the baby has dropped I'm getting kicked less up there.

  • @Disneygirl921 When is your due date, my Dr. just scheduled an induction on the 6th if he doesn't come by then. They are concerned that he's super huge, and it's my best shot at delivering vaginally. I'll be keeping you in my thoughts that things start to get better and maybe we'll go around the same time. :-)
  • @mumistheword  Due date is the 5th. And my dr didn't seem concerned by the strain she did check the location (prob to make sure it wasn't pain in an organ) and she said just take it easy. With the rain we've been having that is not hard to do.

Hopefully our babys will come when they need to

  • I have the same kind of pain only mine is lower, around my belly button. It kills! Really hope it heals soon.

  • @bunnywahl I hope you get relief soon. My pain is far less in the last few days but the weird thing is by the end of each day my skin hurts right where the initial injury happened.

I think I'm just ready to meet this LO and get my body back.

  • @Disneygirl921 Thank you! I'm glad you're feeling a bit better. I hear you on being ready to meet the LO! Good luck!
