Barre class 4 weeks PP?

Im four weeks PP exactly and have recovered really well. I've been taking walks since 1 week PP and fir the past 5 days I've done three mile walks plus 40 squats a day. I really want to go back to barre classes- DH is off work for three more weeks and I'd like to take advantage of a local studio's deal on an unlimited month of classes for $75 while we are both off and I can get away. Do i need to wait until my 6 week checkup or could I go but take it easy since I've done barre for years? Alternatively could I have my PP checkup this week and just have it early so I can hopefully get cleared sooner?

All of these are questions for your doctor. :)
  • I would say wait. I had a similar experience to you with a pretty quick recovery and tried running at 4 weeks PP ... Bad idea ! I did notice that my "insides" were the limiting factor. Your pelvic muscles are really vulnerable initially ,so I've found out . Im 8 weeks PP and am finding out I need to catch up on some kegels and transverse abdominis strengthening! This may not be the case for you but usually for soft tissue healing it takes 6 to 8 weeks.  Good luck and listen to your body, you may not have the same challenges as me!  Im digging your motivation , You go girl !

  • At the hospital after I gave my birth my doctor told me it was ok to start working out at 4 weeks (I was asking about running and light toning) but to wait until my pp checkup before doing any ab stuff.  The barre classes I've done in the past are somewhat ab intense though so if I were you, I'd just see if I could do my appointment early.
  • Thanks everyone! I got my appointment for next Tuesday so a little early. I'll just walk until then so I don't risk anything- plenty of time to kill myself at the gym later!

  • Has anyone been having issue with feeling like their bladder and/or uterus shifting while working out pp?  I've gotten back into yoga, and every time I do downward dog, I can feel everything moving...it sometimes even makes a noise like air is passing when I go from downward dog to standing upright. It's really embarrassing...I've been doing kegals every day but doesn't seem to be helping.  I'm not sure what's creating a vacuum down there...but it's definitely making me feel very self conscious.
