Opportunities to work at home?

Hey all. I am a mental health counselor working full time currently in an Outpatient setting. I plan to work up until baby comes, and then take some time to be a stay at home mom. My goal is to then start a private practice after 6-12 months at home, but work part time and keep it pretty flexible so that I can continue to be with baby as much as possible!

Anyway, I am writing because I know there are a lot of opportunities to do some work from home to earn a bit of extra income, and am wondering if anyone has any experience with this. I am lucky in that it's not entirely necessary for me to be earning, but I have never ever not been able to support myself, and I guess I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that I'll totally be relying on my husband to support the family (silly stubborn independent mother who rubbed off on me!).

I know a million people who sell beachbody, and I'm not really looking for an opportunity where I need to be positing on facebook 24/7....but any idea helps :) Thanks! !

  • I have been doing surveys for legit sites for 5 years now.. depending on how many I qualify for, I can make as much as $500 a year. Most give you cash via paypal, but some do Amazon gift cards. I also get products to test in home for money too-recently I've gotten shampoo, paper towels, and face wash. PM me if you want to know any of the sites I use! I also have some apps on my phone for cash back for grocery shopping. I do a lot of these while I watch TV in the evenings after work so it's nice to make some money on the side :)
  • I'm a licensed social worker, and I have been teaching undergraduate classes online for the past 6.5 years in addition to my full time job. Once this LO is born, I will be taking time off, but continuing to teach online (I did the same thing after DD was born). If you have your Master's degree, maybe this is an option. I often look on HigherEdJobs.com as they have an online teaching section.
  • I second the Etsy suggestion if you have any interest in that sort of thing! I do wedding calligraphy on the side..I probably could make more if I devoted more time and energy to marketing it, which I may do if I'm able to quit my full time job once LO is here. Etsy is very easy to work with and lots of people buy on there!!

  • Flexjobs.Com is a useful resource for finding telecommuting positions in a lot of different fields.
  • thanks so much for all of the help!!  I'm definitely going to look into some of these options :)
  • I babysit and have been taking my LO with me for the past 18 months! I already had families I was working for that were very accommodating and allowed me to bring my baby with me after she was born. Once I have my second baby, I might have to let my families go

  • Locally, we have a center that trains people to work from home as customer service reps for sales places like the QVC channel and such.

So there's this boy. He kinda stole my heart. He calls me "Mom"

  • I sell Juice Plus. It definitely wouldn't be enough if we needed my income but it's decent and I know a few people who make quite a bit from it.
  • Following, as I am in a similar situation. Currently working as a mental health counselor/case manager in a very demanding outpatient job (read: long hours and a very high caseload). I am leaving my job in May to stay home until after Christmas with the new baby, but I am trying to avoid working any job that takes me away from my kids until 7:00 at night, like my current job does. Hoping for a telecommuting counseling gig, or something very part-time! I will definitely check out these sites.
