best remedy for stretch marks???

Hello beauties! I'm going through the itchy boob/belly phase and sometimes I can't help but to scratch but I'd rather use oil or cream. So far I use coconut oil (which works wonders for your hair and skin) and jergens lotion. What do you feel is the best to use for itchyness or stretch marks ladies? Thank you for your commentary.

  • I'm using baby oil in the evenings (only because I use it with this massager tool, I need the oil to not tear the skin), and Dove Men's body lotion (I like the smell of dude products) in the mornings. I'm not getting any stretch marks yet, but I'm only 19 weeks on Thursday, so I know I have a lot of *stretching* to do.
  • For the itch, I use mama mio tummy oil and mama bees tummy butter. Anything else it won't last and I will get itchy within an hour

  • I put on lotion three times a day to keep the itching at bay, but I am currently in the phase where all of my skin is dry. I have been using Gold Bond Ultimate Skin Therapy lotion. I used Bio Oil my first pregnancy and it didn't kept the itching away, and it isn't like it helped with stretch marks (since that is all genetics), and it was expensive. The Gold Bond is a huge bottle, inexpensive, and will last most of my pregnancy.

  • My aunt and cousin SWEAR by "Mother's Friend" for stretch marks. I got a case of about 4 or 5 bottles off amazon. It's blue.

  • I currently use Palmer's Cocoa Butter for Stretch Marks, I use it all over my stomach and chest, and feel like it's thick enough to keep the itching away for a long time.

After DD was born (when I could finally see parts of my body that I hadn't seen in a while lol) I realized I had light stretch marks on my upper thighs (as well as the sides of my breasts). I used Mederma Stretch Mark Therapy and the marks disappeared. That being said, I didn't have a ton of marks and they weren't dark at all, which is why I think it was easy to deal with.
  • I did not escape without stretch marks, but they all faded very quickly. ItWorks makes a stretch mark repair cream that is supposed to work well after baby is here.
  • Just keep it moisturized as you can. I got the worst stretch marks with DS out of any one I've ever seen. Stomach, boobs, inner thighs. But they lighten and I don't notice them any more (not that I'm running around in a bikini or anything).

  • Thanks for the positivity! I really appreciate that. Coconut oil has helped fade some scars I have so I believe rubbing that on daily will be my best bet :)
  • I was one of the unlucky ones that should have had good genes!!! My mom didn't get them, but I did!!! I had quite a bit with my first, and nothing really prevented them. However, over time I used regular ole mosturizer, and I felt that helped them fade a lot. This time around I am getting them again but in different places from the originals. My mom has recently found Young Living essential oils, and gave us a bunch of stuff for Christmas. I read that helichrysum oil is a miracle for stretch marks. I did my research and it is considered safe during pregnancy, but I always encourage people to do their own research and ask their provider. I'm not sold on essential oils yet, but reviewers rave about this oil, so I figured what the hell. Postpartum you can try jasmine and mandarin oils, which also had good reviews. I did a lot of research on it, and jasmine is contraindicated in pregnancy so it would have to wait! Like I said, I'm not sold on these concoctions that claim they get rid of them, but I'm willing to try it, and if anything I guess I'll smell nice?
  • I use normal lotion everywhere after I shower.. I didnt get many with my son.  I had tried some specific ones like burts bee and another and they gave me a rash.
  • Vitamin E oil for the itchiness.

  • Like everyone said, stretch marks are mostly genetic but you can do laser treatments after baby is born.

To moisturize, I am using Puvonia Dry Oil and a Clairins intensive oil straight out of the bath at night, followed by either Biotone massage lotion of La Mer Body Crème. In the mornings I am using La Mer Le Concentrate
  • Somewhere I read that increasing your natural collagen can help, so I've been adding a bit of collagen gelatin powder to different things. Figured it couldn't hurt my chances of my horrible genetics so why not.
Im also using bio oil (my body likes to eat it up ) and palmers cocoa butter for moisturizing after showering.
  • I second the confidence! If it's going to happen, you can't stop it, but you get a pretty amazing prize that I think is worth every mark it leaves. As far as itching, I use an organic coconut oil based body butter with rosemary and peppermint. It smells yummy and keeps the itching at bay!
  • I agree with others - if you're predisposed to stretch marks, you'll get 'em no matter what fancy products you buy. If you got stretch marks during puberty, you'll get them now. The nice oils and lotions will help with the itching.

I knew I was predisposed to stretch marks so I was totally prepared for it and when the first belly ones started. No more bikinis? No big deal - there are tons of cute one pieces. Then, I started to get them on my hips. Then my thighs. Then, I started getting pitting edema in my legs and ended up with stretch marks behind my knees. The first day I noticed them striping up and down my legs I sobbed in the shower for 10 minutes. They faded quickly though, I barely see them now. The deep belly ones are still slightly red but fading as well.
  • @stellaluna14 what brand is that body butter you mentioned? The combo of coconut oil, rosemary and peppermint sounds amazeballs!
  • @jlmartinez517 it's called Nature's Essence. It smells sooooo good.
  • I used Bio Oil day and night during my last pregnancy and didn't get any stretch marks. My mom and sister both have stretch marks.. I'm going to start using this again and cross my fingers!

  • I used cocoa butter. I got them around 37 weeks with DS. My mother never got them either. I tried the cocoa butter after delivery but it didn't seem to make any difference for me. They've faded now 6 years later.
  • I used Bio Oil day and night during my last pregnancy and didn't get any stretch marks. My mom and sister both have stretch marks.. I'm going to start using this again and cross my fingers!
My mom and sister didn't get stretch marks and I did. It is still genetic and not products.
  • Oh I agree completely @Taymiller! I'm still going to use Bio Oil and think happy thoughts

  • I've gotten stretch marks in puberty that have faded, so I'm expecting to get them again unfortunately. However, that doesn't prevent me from doing all I can to not get them this time around. From what I understand (aside from genetics) it has to do with keeping your skin moisturized and keeping yourself very hydrated as hydrated skin is less likely to tear and cause stretch marks to begin with. If they happen oh well though. I hardly notice the ones I had from my teens.

  • I've been using Nerium and no stretch marks yet. But it's a little bit pricey, I go through 2 bottles a month at $80 a bottle.
  • So for those of you doomed to stretch marks or already have them. I am in the super duper covered category and also I could care less and I'll wear a bikini if I feel like it category. A home remedy that does really help them fade after you get them is coffee grounds and olive oil. I would use a used k cup, cut it open and pour the grinds into a bowl and add olive oil to make a paste. I've tried it with avocado oil and coconut oil as well but I noticed the best results was with the o.o. Rub it on your belly in the shower, let it sit for awhile then wash it off. Slather on any type of moisturizer and you'll notice them start fading and plumping back out if they're deep like mine. And yes I use this everywhere...belly, thighs, boobs. Unfortunately the inner thigh ones still look pretty nasty, but before this pregnancy my belly marks significantly lessened.

  • I've never heard of this remedy but if I get them I'd certainly try it!! Easy and cheap! :)

  • I used tons of different lotions; butters and oils.  I still ended up getting them at the VERY end of my pregnancy..  They fade a LOT, but the skin will never be the same.  Its definitely genetics and just one of those things.  I hate them but they are totally worth it at the same time.
  • Someone who just had a baby recommended Emu oil. She claims that Emu oil was sent by the gods. I use it for my scalp but never thought to use it for my belly.
