Valentine's Day

Help! I want to get my husband something special for Valentine's Day this year. He's been so great with a new baby BUT I don't want it baby related. His birthday is the week before so Valentine's will just be something smaller. But I want him to remember we are still a couple, not just sleep deprived parents lol. Any ideas?

Re: Valentine's Day

  • Can someone watch the baby and maybe you two can have a romantic dinner at a restaurant or even at home? Candles, wine and maybe a new lingerie set?
  • I saw this idea online recently and I kind of liked it. Check out lovebookonline.com. it's a cute book that could remind your husband why you love him. Just a thought for mama's! Also, we love going to dinner at a local fondue restaurant so I'm going to try to copy some of that at home.

  • Last year I bought a 52 reasons why I love you book and filled it out. I decorated a 6 pack of beer as well, thanks Pinterest. He loved it! This year I'm going to do something like this in his bathroom and plan a scavenger hunt! Pinterest is your friend. :)
  • Love these ideas!
  • I am in the same boat!!! My Dw birthday is the weekend before Valentines and Valentines is our wedding anniversary so theres so much pressure!

Ive already pulled out all the stops in the past so im lost. Plus I feel like I already slacked for Christmas with good reason of course being couch bound and all...

Ive already done the extremely private romantic dinners...with gondola rides, jazz musicians, private balconies with roses, candle lights in Manhattan roof tops etc etc.

I feel like its the perfect time to be close again, get dressed up, be intimate. I can always get excellent dinner reservations in different romantic restaurants however with the gift... LOST.

Pintrest is actually a good idea. I'll start there. Goodluck!
  • @ammnam14 I'm doing that post it thing. Love!

I also got a cute frame and am putting. A pic of LO jn a valentine's outift.
  • We're going to let SO's mom babysit while we go to dinner and a movie. It doesn't sound like much, but last year we bought a washer and dryer set then we both went to work. So that won't be hard to top ;) I'm looking forward to giving him undivided attention, mostly. He's been so great with Henry and understanding of me being so busy with him. He deserves a good night out. He doesn't care about gifts, but he's been wanting a new scope for his rifle. Not romantic but I'll probably buy that for him. Lol

DH and I aren't big on gifts, but we do make time for a date every year around Valentine's Day (time frame is a week before or after, since we have a hard time finding a babysitter for the actual day most years). We take turns planning the date. This year is DH's turn, so I can't wait to see what he has in store. Last year, I made a winter picnic with baked brie and a wine/jam sauce, heart-shaped mini pies, and hot chocolate with gingerbread Kahlua. I bought a pink blanket with little hearts all over it for our picnic blanket, and then took him ice skating at an outdoor rink in a historic district in our city. It was pretty fun. :)

I've done the scavenger hunt before too, and it turned out great as well. I cleaned our apartment extra well, baked cupcakes, and made little Valentine cards for each clue which all had to do with our relationship. I then arranged for Grandma to take the kids out when he got home from work so he could do the hunt in peace (and so they wouldn't wreck it!). The last clue led him to our favourite restaurant, where I was waiting for him with his favourite drink. Grandma brought the kids home and put them to bed while we were having dinner, so we had a nice quiet evening once we got home too.

  • Good Lawd @elbou you are creative. My DH & I are doing our Valentine's date this Sunday the 7th so that my parents could watch DS and not get jipped of a Valentine's day....and we are going to the casino for lunch & some gambling. Lol...so romantic.

  • We don't have any family around to watch the babe, so I'm thinking of taking her out this week to get some candles, maybe a nice table runner to jazz things up, dress up, and cook a nice dinner.  DH and I can pretend we're at a romantic restaurant. Here's hoping that DD will cooperate.

We have a tradition of not doing big gifts,  but just getting each other our favorite treats from a bakery.

Now i'm going to sound like that obnoxious, pearl wearing, cookie baking mom when i say this (and trust me, I am NOT that guy. I've got one boob hanging out and my hair is full of barf) but Olive is my valentine. So god help us all, we're taking her with us. So i'm not help - but maybe you can incorporate the baby? Like, dress her up in red or pink and somehow work her into a romantic gesture?

I'm sorry. I'm running on zero sleep..
  • My husband always appreciates a gift certificate to get a massage. It might be nice for him to have some time to relax.
  • All my husband wants is tools & craft beer. Which I'm fine with because he uses those tools to remodel our house (while drinking craft beer)! We never go out on the actual day because restaurants are usually super busy & I could care less which day we celebrate. But with the babe this year, I'm sure we'll just cook together at home & watch a movie & play board games (we have a whole closet full of them). I should really try harder to make it special. I'll be on the lookout here for ideas ladies!
  • I always try and find something different that DH wouldn't buy for himself, but I know he would love.

    Over the years I've bought him;
-a subscription to some of this favorite magazines (He is a huge car junkie and gets 2-3 subscriptions a year for different car mags).
-A DVD of a movie he loves and I'll pair it with some popcorn and candy and request a date night so we can watch it together
-Concert tickets, if there happens to be something coming up that he'd like to see
-Books to help with his welding career or car hobby
-He collects Hot Wheel cars, so I've ventured onto E-Bay and have found some rare ones out there before

This year I got him a set of coasters that are cut into different wheel designs by this one company that makes ridiculously expensive rims for high end cars.  They are unique, I know he will love them, and wouldn't have ever though to buy them for himself. I don't think he even knows they exist to tell you the truth. Another friend of ours who is into the car thing like him bought a set and I sought him out on where to find them.

We will probably stay in this year and make dinner together and do a movie.  Last year we did that and the stipulation was that we had to make something new to try together.  We made homemade chicken fried rice for the first time and it was delicious!

  • Hmmmm....just got most of my flat stomach back, but it's about time I get a pole and show him I can spice things up after a baby. Here's what I'm getting..https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005IPK7AU?vs=1
.................Here's how to put it up!!
