Baby Names

Feel like I'm running out of time

I am 32+ weeks and am going crazy over names. My husband and I just keep flip flopping and haven't really fallen in love with anything. We already have two daughters, Mary Jane and Lucy. I want a name that's a similar style- classic but not too common. Below are the lists we've got it narrowed down to, but I'm not sold on any of these. Open to feedback on these and new suggestions. Please help!!!

Oliver
Edward
Benjamin
Samuel
Peter
William
Henry

Claire
Faye
Rose
Susanna
Maura

  • Honestly, I'd try to take a week off from thinking about names and see if you and your husband feel any differently when you come back.

Buy I second the taking a break. We were having the same problem. We had a list but didn't really love any and couldn't make a decision. We took a break and didn't say anything about names for a couple weeks. And when we came back to it we decided to scrap the entire list and start over! So we made a new list at 38 weeks and chose one within a week.
  • Your boy's list looks quite a lot like ours, so I don't think you can go wrong there. I'm particularly digging Peter, Henry and Edward, and would like to suggest Edmund as a fun twist on Edward that is slightly less common.

Some of your girl picks are not my style, but I do really like Claire, and none of them are bad! Susan is a rather pretty name too that might be worth considering.

  • Your style is pretty similar to ours. I'm Mary, we have a Henry, this baby will be either Lucy or George, but I love and would use all your boy options. Oddly, your girl ideas aren't my taste but your older girls names are totally. Hmm. We've been really stuck for girl names but to go with Mary Jane and Lucy I'd suggest
    Amelia
    Kate
    Emmaline
    Sophie
    Violet

  • Maybe you can try and fine some other reasons to eliminate names. Eliminate based on popularity, how much you do or dont like the nick names, potential mistakes in spelling or pronunciation (though most of your names are really straight forward!),do you have any friends with any of these names?, etc? That might just help you get your list down.

Though I tired to come up with some ideas based on your names, and there really wasnt to much i could come up with! The only one that was really super popular was Oliver. I think it could be cute to have Rose as a nn for a longer name if you wanted like, Roseanna, Rosalie, Rosalind, etc. The spelling on all was great as long as you keep it Maura instead of Moira cause i find that spelling to often be confusing and accidentally pronounced as Moy-Rah.

  • Susanna and Peter
  • I like Peter, it's more unpredictable and underused...and I like pp suggestion of Edmund. I'm kind of underwhelmed by the girl names though...I like Clara over Claire and the rest are just ok for me. What about something like Louisa, Gwen, Jillian, Cora, Rosalie, Eliza
  • @TheHauntedHauswife Moira pronounced Moy-rah is a totally separate name than Maura.
I assume poster was shooting for Maura.
  • Honestly, I'd try to take a week off from thinking about names and see if you and your husband feel any differently when you come back.
For real. I thought you had already picked your names? Just take a break.

    I'm 34+2 and we haven't chosen a name.

    You have time.

  • Oliver and Maura are my favs from your list
  • Oliver and Claire.

Oh, I had no idea, My neighbor is pronounced Maura spelled Moira. The only Maura/Moira i ever knew.
  • @TheHauntedHauswife you never know these days (or even before) about different pronunciations and stuff. I only know because I know a Moira (actually 2!) and no one every pronounces their name correctly. Personally while I like both Maura and Moira I'd never pick them, too confusing!
  • @jenniferamcooper Definitely too confusing for me too! I had no idea there were actually people calling themselves moy-rah. So absolutely!
