Extended family and using same name

My sister's brother-in-law (her husbands brother) and his wife just had their first baby. The name they used is in our top 3 for a girl, though we haven't decided yet (only 23w). The name is not super common, but it's not off-beat or uncommon. We rarely see this couple - 4 times over the last 5 years, 3 of which were for events around my sisters wedding. Is that too close for use to use the same name?

I personally wouldn't have a problem using the name; the connection is too far removed from my immediate circle to feel it would be an issue at all. My brother's wife's sister has just used a name that I am considering, and I am not at all bothered--we will never, ever see them in person though. When the time comes, if this name rises to the top of the list for you, I'd say go for it.

I would not worry about it if that's the name you go with. You definitely don't see them enough for it to be a problem. I think even if you did you can still use the name. Use the name you love and don't worry about what others think, only worry about what you and DH love.

I wouldn't even entertain the idea that this name couldn't be used in your case.

I think it depends on how close you are. But i agree you could still use it. We are still decently close with my husband's, brother's, wife's, brother and see him a few times a year. I wouldnt want us to have matching names. But at the same time thing happen and if for some reason his girlfriend found out she was pregnant, i would not expect them to base their name around what we do or dont chose. Though admittedly it would be a little odd, because then my sister in law would have two niece's with the same name, so it could get confusing. But I would not let that be the final deciding factor if you truly felt that that one of your 3 names was really it.

I would still use it. Especially if you hardly ever see them. There is a big difference in seeing them a few times a year, and dealing with them on a weekly basis.
