Retained placental tissue after Emergency C-Section? (Loss Mentioned)

I had an emergency C-section in October to deliver my son, Griffin, he was born at 27 weeks and passed away October 5, 2015. I bled nonstop for October and much of November...I started BC in October to regulate.  December found me bleeding more days than not and it was VERY alarming tissue and stuff I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE-scared me a lot....I was treated for any infection I might have but the bleeding continued into January...I went to OBGYN, had an ultrasound and he said it looked like retained placenta?!?! He indicated this is really rare ESPECIALLY with C-Sections because they have their hands in there manually getting everything out...he put me on Progesterone for 12 days to try and let everything pass...if it doesn't get better than I am to have a D&C.

Has anyone had a C-section and gone through this?  He said my uterus walls looked really thick (which I hope is a good thing?!?) as we want to try again in the future.  Has anyone had a C-section and just bled and bled? Thanks!
