We tried cereal. Then after a while we went to frozen peas. We went for a week and stopped because she wasn't pooping. Though even after shipping for two weeks she still isn't really pooping. Once she hits 6 months we are going to start frozen butternut squash. I love being able to make the food at home. Along with breastfeeding, we are saving so much money.
I've made all his food except for the apples. We did cereal for a bit and then buttercup squash. He didn't seem too impressed so we tried sweet potato and he loved it. We're now doing peas which he wasn't too sure about so I mix it with apple and he seems to like it way better. I think we're either going to do carrot or pumpkin next. We also have beets but I think we're going to wait till he doesn't make such a mess. That stuff is going to stain.
I have loved making his food. So far I have froze 2 ice cube trays of sweet potatoes and 2 of butternut squash! It is so easy and extremely cheap compared to jarred food. This weekend I am making peas and green beans.
I started with plain cereal and he always made a nasty face and would only take a couple bites, haha. Now I mix banana cereal and sweet potatoes and he eats the entire thing! Tomorrow we are trying the squash.
First food my baby tried was avocado with a bit of breastmilk! He liked it! Although it did take him a bit to get familiar with the taste and I've only gave him food twice so far and both times I've made them. He turns 6 months tomorrow so my son will officially get the okay to start eating purees on Friday but I am planning on making his food! Good luck mama! this is another stage of his life I want to enjoy and be part of !
We started with rice cereal at 4 mos. old. He hated it and it made him constipated. So, we stopped for a few weeks and then tried baby oatmeal. He loved it, so now he has that every morning with his mid-morning bottle. Once we were sure he wasn't going to have any kind of reaction or allergy to the oatmeal, we started the Gerber first foods with green beans (loved it), then carrots (hated it and it gave him a rash on his face), now we are on squash. We are trying a new food every four to five days. Some days I get him started with green beans, then try a new food. Other days we go straight to the squash. Veteran moms advised me to do veggies first because the sweetness of fruit makes them preferred over veggies if you do fruits first.
We started with rice cereal at 4 months, then started introducing other foods leaving at least 3 days between anything new. So far he has had regular & sweet potatoes, carrots, green beans, avacado, bananas, apples, & pears. He's loved everything so far! And making everything is so easy & cost effective although I did buy a jar of prunes the other day for him to try next.
Our baby's first food was sweet potatoes on Thanksgiving Day and she loved them! I make all her food. She's had sweet potatoes, squash, carrots, bananas and alvocado. Carrots made her poop hard last two times so I've stopped giving those. It's so much cheaper to make food and I actually enjoy it. I make in bulk on Sunday and freeze it.
This is probably a no no. I was eating some vanilla ice cream yesterday and LO was eyeing it so I gave him a tiny taste. I'm pretty sure he loved it cause he kept opening his mouth for more. I had to say no. I think he was into the coldness of it on his gums. Not going to be a regular occurrence. I just wanted to see what he'd do.
I need to look into making food since it is easy and cheaper. We have bough beechnut jars, he didn't like carrots but like the butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and pretty much anything else we have given him. We have also let him try vanilla ice cream and he likes it way too much.
Started with banana. I've been making his own food but in not puréed. I steam it and let him try to feed himself. A lot of the time he just likes to smash it in his fist or whatever surface he is on.
Started with carrots. She wasn't too sure about that, lol. Then apples and pears. She liked that. Next was sweet potatoes and broccoli, which she liked. Next up is parnips/sweet potato/carrots. Skipped over the cereal so far, though I did buy some. I also have avocado and banana as well as butternut squash that we are gonna try this weekend.
I bought a recipe book and Cuisinart. Have made all LO's food so far. It's pretty easy, and it's nice having fresh veggies in the house. Makes it easier for me and dad to eat healthy as well.
Oh, just started fruit today - apples - loves them! So the plan is fruit in the morning for breakfast with breastmilk bottle and a veggie in the evening with BM bottle for dinner. His little appetite sure is growing!!!!
My little one had peas as his first, liked it a lot but now that he tried sweet potatoes and squash he is morni tongue greens as much but I mix apples and banana in his greens as a disguise and he loves it, I am doing homemade.
For the babies that don't like avacado. Mine didn't like it at first either, but then I mixed some with sweet potato or apple sauce. I didn't even really mix it, just made both and dipped the spoon in both. And she loved it!! And it's supper healthy for them. I have an avacado tree in my yard so she was eating it all the time.
We started with avocado, and she really didn't like it. Next, we moved on to sweet potato, which she's much happier with. The plan is to do carrots next and then apples. We're making everything ourselves. I picked up a book called Top 100 Baby Pureeswhich I have loved so far. It really goes into nutritional values, which a lot of baby recipe books don't seem to.
We started with oatmeal cereal. Then, I made homemade sweet potatoes and froze them. Next, peas, applesauce, bananas & avocados. I make all of his baby food and freeze it in the ice cube looking trays from oxo tot. I'm going to buy prunes, pears & butternut squash today.
Side note: my baby doesn't like the peas or avocados alone, so a friend told me to mix something with those. Works like a charm! We mix peas with sweet potatoes or apples with avocados.
