Pregnant after IF

Question on HCG level

Hi all! My DH and I got our first BFP after 15 months of trying with our first cycle of Clomid. I did not get a LH surge until CD16 and I think I ovulated on CD17 based off my BBT chart. I took a pregnancy test on CD32 and it was positive. I got my beta test done on CD34 and it was a 310. My RE seemed concerned by this because they can't pinpoint exact date of ovulation. Once I told them I'd been charting they felt better that I wasn't as far along as they had thought. They wanted me in for another test on CD36 (which is today) and beta was 720. They were happy it doubled but still want to monitor me closely. Am I missing something? I thought my levels were within that of the normal range. I don't know if they are being overly cautious or if I'm not thinking the way they are with these numbers. Anyone have a similar situation like this?

Thanks!
Laura

Re: Question on HCG level

  • The number itself really doesn't matter as much as the fact that it rises appropriately. Looks like it's doing what it's supposed to do. FWIW I had about 16324023480239 betas done this pregnancy, and at 15 dpo (from my best guess based on OPK) it was 248. I also had betas at 11, 14, and 17 though. It the big picture, not just one set of numbers, you know? Try not to worry, it doesn't seem like they're concerned, just being cautious, which is a good thing.

  • Sounds good to me. I think they are being cautious also. I am wondering if they are waiting till your beta is higher to indicate further along in pregnancy and will do an early ultrasound. Really it's best to do the first one at 7 weeks so they have more to see in there. Earlier than that it's hard to judge how a pregnancy is developing. When you get to the point of taking fertility drugs they tend to be more cautious with pregnancies. Good luck!

  • Thank you both, @potatocastillo and @jeannaqueena for your comments! I'm not overly concerned with anything myself and I feel great (probably more so than I did when i wasn't pregnant). I haven't had any spotting or anything like that, just some cramping here and there. Hopefully these numbers keep progressing as they have been. Can't wait to see my little bean through an ultrasound ❤️

  • After my IVF, my first HCG was 39! Then it only went to 64.. Then it began doubling. I think it's hard to not be cautious but from what you said, it sounds promising that all will turn out well! Good luck!
  • Your numbers are definitely fine. I had betas done until my number was over 2,000. Good luck and congratulations. :)
