I started introducing whole milk a few days ago at meal times but noticed that DS would only take a sip or two and half the time would spit out the milk. He's been drinking water with meals for months and has no problems getting the water out of the sippy.
So, yesterday I thought I'd experiment and put the milk in a bottle and gave it to him after his nap and he drink the whole 7 oz. Today, I put the milk in his sippy and tried to feed him after his nap in the glider rocking him ( this is how I feed him his 3 bottles for the most part) and he only took two sips and kept pushing the sippy away. I went downstairs, and poured the milk in a bottle and offered it again and he drank the whole thing.
So now what? Any tips on how to transition him to taking milk sippy? He's got no problems taking water but won't take milk from the sippy.
Re: DS won't take milk from sippy only from a bottle
I think a lot of kids go thru this. Keep offering milk at meals and then give BM or formula in your bottles. I never did milk in the bottle.
Then just start dropping bottles. He should start drinking more from the sippys. They don't need the same amount of fluids anymore. 12 oz of milk is okay.
There will probably be a period when you are done with bottles that he doesn't drink a lot but he will figure it out. I let dd take her sippy of milk all over during the day at first. That way she drank more. Once she drank fine, I pretty much kept it at the table for meals.
we just went through this and JUST figured out something that will work for DD, after about 3 weeks of no milk (got by with lots of cheese, yogurt, etc.), because she wouldn't drink it from a sippy, but loves her sippy for water!! I think she just thought "milk comes from a bottle, water comes from a sippy" - and not vice versa!!
the only thing that has worked for us after trying many suggestions is to flavor her milk slightly with strawberry syrup - now she LOVES it! i think because the flavor is different, it's "okay" for that to be coming out of the sippy cup! we're going to gradually decrease the amount of syrup as we go, and hopefully get to the point where she'll drink milk from her sippy soon!
good luck!
