Pregnant after a Loss

Being overdue with rainbow baby

So I lost my first pregnancy at 17weeks for no known reason. I was lucky enough to get pregnant again six months later and I am now 40w&4d pregnant with my rainbow. It has been a struggle the whole time and around 37weeks I really broke down about wanting him to come so that I could protect him on the outside. Now everyday I loose it because he is just not coming and I am so scared of the risks of going to far past your due date but I also don't want to induce. I'm just a mess over here and wondering if anyone can relate or have any advice.

Re: Being overdue with rainbow baby

  • I'm only familiar with first trimesters so I don't know anything about delivery, etc, but I wanted to say congratulations on making it full-term and I hope everything goes really well! My sister and I both came a month after our due dates (back in the 70's when they did things differently) and we were both very healthy!

RE says the low egg count is likely causing my recurrent pregnancy loss. Less eggs results in more aneuploidy.

@keiragann very exciting you've made it to 40w!!! Congratulations..I can understand not wanting to he induced so my advice would be talk with your Dr and see what they recommend given your history...I think every mom has an idea of how they want their delivery to be and it can seem disappointing when things don't go to plan, completely understandable, but I think when it's all said and done you will be over the moon to have your baby in your arms regardless of how they got here, try to keep your eye on the prize. I wish you a smooth delivery and a healthy baby!

  • Congrats on making it so far!! I can understand the feeling, however remember that you are just going to trade one worry for another. While baby is inside of you, you can protect them at all time. Once baby is out in the world, you have so much other stuff to worry about.

I came a little over two weeks after my due date and I'm doing pretty good. Not that I want you to suffer for another week and a half! As long as the doctors arent concerned, let baby stay in there a bit longer and keep developing their lungs and other systems. Even though scans are much more advanced then they used to be, they can still be a bit off (which is why it drives me crazy when women choose to induce two weeks prior to their due date for no medical reason other than convenience or liking being able to pick the due date). Baby will be here before you know it and I am so excited for you to hold that wonderful bundle!!

Good wishes and let us know when the baby comes!
  • I know a lot of people who have been induced and had great experiences. If that's what ends up happening, then don't Google! People usually post their worst experiences. When everything goes great they're at home enjoying their babies, not posting online, so try to relax and like @ssnova recommended plan not to have a plan. My water broke on its own, but they did give me pitocin and I didn't notice any difference in my contractions and baby was totally fine. Your delivery will be great. Everyone's experience is unique.
  • My midwives and I have worked closely and they know my whole story and have seen my emotions at full force :) They will not let anyone go past 42 weeks so either way I'll be induced if I get to the 15th. The earliest they will induce is on the 8th at 41 weeks. I'm just so nervous about both options. I want to go naturally but what if I chose not to go on the 8th and have to be induced on the 15th anyway? Or what if something happens to the baby during that week? But what if I chose to get induced on the 8th and I could have waited one more day for him to come naturally? There are just so many what if's.

  • @keiragann there will always be "what ifs". So why don't you set a date between the 8th and the 15th, like the 11th or 12th, then if you have to be induced you know you gave it a little extra time but didn't wait til the last minute. In the mean time walking can be a great way to start labor. Good luck in whatever
  • @keiragann  I am a big fan of using my gut. As an anxious person, even when not dealing with big stuff, I've had to figure out how to differentiate between the little voice of anxiety and my inner wisdom. What does your gut tell you to do? If you get an answer, just go with it. I'm sure you are super nervous and excited at the same time, but that ends up translating into anxiety. You are going to do great and the baby will be here before you know it!

  • I'm thinking about you and hoping your little one decides to come out soon.  I understand all the what ifs and how they change depending on your status.  I think I have about 20 what ifs in my mind all the time, when once goes out another takes its place.

    Good luck!!

  • I have not surpassed my due date, I'm 36 weeks. My anxiety is increasing as due date is approaching. I just want to cross the finish line. I can't imagine your anxiety level. I will be thinking about you!
  • I feel the exact same way! I had two prior miscarriages before my current pregnancy, and I'm now 37 weeks.  I was a complete mess up until about 20 weeks, then I started to feel less anxious.  I wanted (and still want) to avoid induction at all costs, as I know that Pitocin can cause fetal distress if the contractions are too intense and close together. I've even been planning to have a natural birth and have hired a doula.  However, I've completely regressed psychologically now that I hit 37 weeks because it's just so hard for me to believe that after 2 bad outcomes, everything is finally going to work out ok.  I just want the baby to come out!
  • @keiragram How are you doing?
