WTF Wednesday 10/28

Because it's practically Wednesday already.

WTF to the water coming into our (carpeted) finished basement and the thousands of dollars DH and I will be spending to fix the slab, bleaching mold, replacing flooring, drywall, and trim. I'm not trying to save money for all things baby, or anything. Secretly I'm happy about the new floors, but everything else is a serious WTF.

Re: WTF Wednesday 10/28

  • I asked for 2 days to work from home after I return from maternity leave. I only got approved for one. My husband is going to be out of the state going to school with the army. I am a graphic designer so I just work in front of computer anyways. I thought 2 days was reasonable but nope. Feeling pretty bummed.
  • My office is changing their hours January 2016 umm yeah I told them my concerns about not being able to extend my hours to accommodate the new schedule being a pregnant single parent and I have a feeling I will not have a job when I get off of maternity leave. Plus they are hiring someone new right now to train when I go on maternity leave I have a feeling it's going to be more than one person because we have had such a great interest in our office

  • My washing machine just stopped working today. It will go through the whole cycle but when it gets to the spin cycle it won't spin the clothes all the way out so they are dripping wet still. Ugh! I'm so bummed I love my washing machine and really didn't want to have to get a new one. It's a stackable one so that means we have to replace the dryer as well. I guess I can't complain too much because it was a hand me down from my parents and is almost 18 years old.

Mine just did this! I googled it and it was the just filter that was completely clogged with dog fur so it wouldn't drain. Cleaned it out, and I'm good to go! Hopefully it's something easy like that so you don't have to buy a new one!
  • @Jellybelly119 I will have to check that out! Hopefully that's all it is. We do have a dog that sheds A LOT so that very well could be it. Now just to find the filter... Hmmm. Lol!!

  • My kid decided she was done napping last week. She's two. I was really hoping she'd still be napping when her little sister arrived. But no. I'm so sad napping is over.

Make sure you drain the tub before you start looking for the clog. One you find it, all the washer will come rushing out. I have a stackable set as well, and just went through this recently. Normally you can pull off the front panel to access everything inside.

I had to drain it with the little hose in the filter part first so water didn't get everywhere. Never even occurred to me that this was something I should be doing on a regular basis!
  • WTF to people coming to my house sick when they know I'm pregnant and have a toddler. I really hope we don't catch it. Ugh!!

Okay so there isn't sitting water in the washer still and it looks clean of any dog hair. It's just that the clothes are still really wet. It's doing the spin cycle but just not forceful enough maybe? I don't know I'll have to have my husband take it apart and look at it tonight. Thank you for all the advice!

  • @ohbaby714 this is where the filter is on mine. It wasn't the tub itself that was clogged. (Again, it may not be this at all, but when mine started just giving up in the middle of the spin cycle that was the issue!)
  • Thanks @Jellybelly119! Once DD goes down for a nap I'll go down and look at it. Yours is a lot fancier than mine and I almost wouldn't be sad if we had to get a new one haha! We put a couple hundred dollars into the dryer last year because I really do still love the washer so I'll have to talk to H tonight and see what he thinks. Hopefully it's an easy fix though and we won't have to worry about it for now.

  • Wtf to the snow I woke up to today. I mean I knew it was coming so I shouldn't be surprised but now I'm scrambling to find my toddler ski pants and I rushed and ordered boots online for both of my kids this morning because they had nothing to wear today. You'd think I'd be prepared after years of this, but noo once again I'm left scrambling because I'm in denial. So the wtf goes to myself today as well #-o

Do you have homeowners insurance? They'll cover the cost of water damage minus deductible (although I suppose this might depend on your policy!).
  • Accidently must have bumped into the overhead light in my car when I parked it on Saturday for the conference I was at all week. Left early so I didn't have to rush the hotel checkout and bag lugging only to notice my car wouldn't start. So, $115 later and I was on the road. Then headed to the airport only to find parking there was full. Found parking a few miles away. But again so glad I left early! Def not my day...but so far flight is on time and I'm headed to visit family for our baby shower...so there's a light at the end of this tunnel!

I'm so jealous you have snow! It's mid 70s here
  • Why do I have to go to BIL's bday dinner tonight after my long day of work? I don't remember him coming to my birthday last year....just saying...
  • Wtf to my coworker begging me to stay an extra half hour to help support his team. I told you I was leaving at 5, to which you replied "that's fine" because no one mentioned before today you wouldn't have support after 3. Then when I try to leave, you legit beg me to stay. No sir, I'm leaving now
  • Wtf to another trip to the hospital. Had another ultrasound on little girl's kidney and they saw that my cervix is way short. Fortunately, I'm not having contractions yet. My pregnancy has been identical to my mom's pregnancy with me, though. She went into preterm labor but they held me in for a little while. I ended up coming about 5 weeks early. Crossing my fingers for no more hospital stays.

Also WTF... Specialist basically told me to quit my job. I can't even rant right now. Just so freaking frustrated.
  • @cantobean I take my BIL out for his birthday every year for the last 3 years (we work together so it's easy to take him to lunch) and not once has he reciprocated. His is the month before mine and I guess I assumed we'd go out for my birthday as well, but nope. And I can't stop the "tradition" now since it's been 3 years!

WTF to my neighbors leaving their puppy (6-8 months old) outside in the windy, 35 degree, snowy weather and claiming it's an outside dog when H questioned them. He has no shelter and no way to get out of the elements. Poor little thing was shaking.

Wow. Some people.... I'd call animal control, but that's just me.

This is awful! I'd call animal control too. It's just not right.

Omg. Devastating! My 18 month old has just decided sleeping ever is not for him. He was so great at bedtime and napping and sleeping through the night. Out of nowhere it's been a week of screaming at nap time and bedtime... And waking every four hours at night. WTF kid? Sleep is awesome. Also wtf why is there no parenting manual on how to appropriately handle this?

My neighbor has a dog that they leave out from the time one of them leaves for work in the afternoon (4:00) until the other gets home at 10 pm... It literally barks from the moment the sun starts going down until they let it in. Incessant, loud, never-ending make-you-want-to-scream barking. I wish it would snow so they'd have to let it in, but we live in Florida so that's NOT going to happen. :-/

DD did that around that age. It was awful. I was at a total loss on that one. She did grow out of it and it didn't last forever. So hopefully that phase will end soon for you!
  • @Rodkey2007 when I was stationed in Florida we had a huge ice storm and some snow. Everything was frozen, it's possible apparently! That was my first experience in cold weather too, since I lived in California my whole life before then. Who would've thought it would take moving to Florida to introduce me to snow&ice! Now I'm used to it since we are in MD.

(I know this is hardly anything compared to where I am now, but for Florida, that was a lot! Everything was shut down and power lines for falling. We had MRE's because no one knew when the galley would be able to open again, not to mention the whole no power thing again. We huddled for warmth in my room. It was kind of fun though! I had a friend from NC teach me all about snow.)
  • @Shatzegirl I live in western Canada so it's not unusual to have it already. Im reallyyyy hoping that it melts and we get a couple more weeks snow free before it is here for good, but that might be wishful thinking.

@ashton2190 no take it back!! I'd switch you if I could ;)

Is your job really demanding? That's so weird she/he would say something to that degree.

Hope everything starts turning around soon!

  • @paytonpedro and @BabySeaTurtles if this happens again we will be calling the county for a welfare check. The hard part is he's not outside all of the time. @Rodkey2007 this dog is not a barker so that's not my issue. Of you are going to have an outside dog I have no problem with that. I grew up with outside dogs. My issue comes when said dog doesn't have anyway to get out of the elements. Out state law says adequate shelter has to be provided for animals to get out of the elements.
