Hair Loss

Hey Gang-
I know you are supposed to experience some hair loss after your baby is born. However, it takes me 5 minutes to pull the hair off my hands after the shower or when blow drying. It ends up getting on my daughter...
Has anyone else experienced this? If yes, how long did it last?

Re: Hair Loss

  • Currently going through this. I have never had hair loss like this before, but friends have told me its totally normal. But i dont mind it too much since i have such thick hair, its almost a relief to lose a bit of it ;) haha i am sure once our hormones are back on track things will go back to normal.
  • I'm glad I have really thick hair or Id be bald with the amount I lose lol

  • This right here is my daily struggle. My hair ends up everywhere! I had this happen when I had my DD 4 years ago. I don't remember how long it lasted though. :-( I just feel like I'm loosing waaaay more from DS. I hate it! My (super annoying, pain in the a$teroid) mother in law suggested I put onions in my shampoo... Go figure....

  • With DD1 it lasted from about 3-6 months pp. with DD2 it started around 2 months and still going strong (4mo yesterday). It's awful!!!!!

  • Ok thank you ladies! I'm the same way, my hair is so thick or I'd be bald!
    Appreciate your feedback!!!
  • You just made my night. My hair loss is extreme and I can see spots by the front hairline where it is thinning bad. I have been having major anxiety over this because I thought the hair loss should be over and I thought something was wrong with me. Thank you!
  • My hair is thick but I have bald spots right above my temples. The hair loss is way worse with my second pregnancy then it was with the first
  • @staceyfern @mamameghan I also feel like I am balding along my hairline. Right on my temples. I feel like I could be the "before picture" of a hairloss commercial. :(( I have thin hair to begin with.

My LO is 18 weeks and I started losing when he was about 12-13 weeks. :(
  • Took me almost 9 months with my daughter. My son is 20 weeks and my hair is still coming out in fistfuls in the shower. Clogs the drain weekly.

  • Same! I find my hair everywhere!!!!!! But I talked to my hair lady and she said its normal and try moisturizer. So I have been just washing my hair with shampoo and then putting in leave in conditioner when I get out of the shower. And it's help!!!
  • If my hair isn't falling out, LO is pulling it b/c she doesn't want to burp.
  • I've decided to stop blow drying and heat styling to try to control it...I bought some leave in conditioner and since the air is dry now it typically won't get frizzy...it just means I have to leave it long instead of cutting it in a way that would make styling it necessary. Hopefully by the time the humidity returns to NC this will stop!

I do need to trim my ends but I'm afraid of losing anyone hair...my hair is kind of fine as it is. Boo.
  • I have anxiety dreams about my teeth falling out and the stones falling out of my wedding ring. Now I'm dreaming about my hair falling out too.
  • So glad to see this as I was worried there was something wrong with me! Baby is 19 weeks and still losing hair like crazy.
  • I always dream about my teeth falling out!!

  • Ok good! I'm glad it's not only me...I feel like there are bugs crawling on me, then I look down and oh it's just hair ALL OVER ME!
  • I have baby hairs all over. Doesn't help that they're curly. I didn't notice hair loss but apparently it happened. I recently cut my hair short to try and blend it. On the other side, I haven't lost the hair growth that occurred during pregnancy. I still have a hairy belly. Not sexy!
