Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

miscarriage followed by chemical pregnancy

Found out we were pregnant with our first baby in June and found out in July at 9 weeks that our sweet little one had stopped growing at 7.5 weeks. Did a D&C and results came back that it was a partial molar pregnancy. Started trying again after 2 cycles and found i was pregnant again last week. 2 days later AF came along and i was diagnosed with a chemical pregnancy. Doctor didnt give me any specifics on what do to or when i could try again. Do i need to wait or can we try again this week? Has anyone else experienced a chemical pregnancy following a miscarrige?

Re: miscarriage followed by chemical pregnancy

  • I had a MC a few years ago and then a chemical last fall. After my CP, I was told to wait two cycles before trying again. But I've heard some people say that their doctors were fine with them trying again immediately, so I would check with your doctor.

  • I have had 4 miscarriages, 3 chemicals and 1  at 8wks (stopped growing at 6). The first I got pregnant was in Nov 14, that ended in a chemical at 4 weeks, 5 days. the second was in Dec 14, got pregnant again right away...and that is the one that stopped growing at 6wks...(saw a faint hb at 8wks, then 10 wk checkup baby was gone :( ), had a D&C in Feb. Gave my body a break and then tried again in July, that ended in a chemical at 4 weeks 6 days. Then got pregnant again in August and the same. Ended 4 wks, 5 days. So I ended up getting tons of bloodwork done and it turns out I have 2 clotting disorders. MTHFR and PAI-1 4G/4G. Basically one can form clots and the other can't break them down. Making it hard for baby to implant. We are getting ready to try again only this time I was put on Baby aspirin as well as daily shots of Lovenox after I ovulate. You might want to go about getting some bloodwork done just to see. I wish I had been persistent about my tests, maybe I could have saved one as well as spared myself so much heartache.

Good luck and sorry for your losses :(

  • I had a miscarriage in May (had a D&C) and then had a chemical pregnancy in September this year.  My doctor said "usually" people wait to see a specialist after 3 miscarriages but she knows everyone these days wants answers.  After my chemical pregnancy, I went to a reproductive specialist, had a ton of blood work done, two vaginal ultrasounds, and my husband had his sperm checked. So far every test result has come back normal.  Obviously normal is a good thing but it makes me uneasy as we would like to try again soon.  It is possible it is just bad luck twice in a row.  When we get pregnant again, this specialist will have me in for blood work and ultrasounds early and often to check everything.  I have heard that I could be put on progesterone supplements to hold or support the pregnancy in the first trimester.

Good luck to you. I truly know how painful and overwhelming this is to deal with.

Im so sorry for your losses. I don't have any experience with a chemical pregnancy however im going thru a partial molar pregnacy right now. Can I ask you how long did it take for your levels to get to zero? How long did you have to wait to TTC? I just got word that im starting chemo this week. Thank you in advance.

Had my D&C on July 17th and HCG was considered zero (less than 5) on August 13 so a little less than a month. It dropped pretty fast at first but once i got into the low 50's it seemed to take forever. My endocronologist cleared me to try again after 2 cycles, my obgy said i needed to go 3 months with 0. I got pregnant on the first month with the chemical pregnancy. Endocronologist said chemical pregnancy is very common after a miscarriage because your uterine lining is not built up yet.
