GTKY deserted island

Let's have some fun- and get to know each other!

You're going to live on a deserted island for an indefinite amount of time...
What are three material items you would take (assuming you already have the basic matches, knife, food, water and a tent and no you can't bring a boat/transportation!) and name one person you don't know in RL that you would bring with you!!

  • Loading the player...
  • 1. A huge bottle of bug spray!!!!!!
    2. A fishing pole or spear for fishing
    3. I agree about a book of everything.... Gotta pass the time somehow ;)

Person: Bear Grylls - because he knows the survival ropes, and because he is just crazy enough that it would be a blast!
  • I would take my Harry Potter collection (that counts as one!), photo album (I would say phone, but there would be no way to charge it), and guitar.

For a person, if it can't be MH or son, I would say Bear Grylls because I would have no idea how to survive in the wild and hopefully he could keep me alive!
Haha, and I was afraid nobody would know who Bear Grylls was. I like the way you think ;)
  • I would bring a guitar so I could teach myself to play, a collection of books, and a notebook to document my adventures.  I'm stuck between bringing Jimmy Fallon or Amy Poehler along.  They are both fantastic.

    Great question!

Unfortunately despite buying a guitar and all the accessories and my determination to learn- I have a feeling is still procrastinate and not practice even on a deserted island!!

  • Def would take Beyoncé with me. Have you seen her beach pics? She always looks like she is having such a good, glamorous time!

Would bring the following with me-

    Sunscreen

A kindle with hundreds of books downloaded so I don't run out

A supply of margarita mix and tequila (assuming I am stranded after having the baby, right??)

  • I *love* this question! I actually have wanted to do a deserted island vacation for years- you spend a few days learning how to survive, then they pick you up in a helicopter, which has an "emergency" and you have to jump into the ocean before it "crashes" and swim for the island, where you survive on your own for several days until rescue comes.

I would take snorkeling gear, a camera, and a BIG knife (I know you already said a knife, but I was almost eaten by a shark once so now I'm afraid to go in the water without one, even though I doubt it would do any good!)

Even though it's not a real person, I'd take John Locke from Lost, because I know he'd be up for exploring and getting into mischief
  • I am so bad at these kinds of questions!!!!!!

    1) a sack of potatoes - good to eat and to grow more potatoes (i'm clearly obsessed with carbs)
    2) my iphone (in airplane mode to conserve battery obv) to listen to audiobooks and music
    3) a notebook, writing is my passion and the whole situation is prime for a bestselling memoir

If we can bring fictional characters I'm bringing Hermione Granger with me for the magic and smarts. (HP nerd alert).

  • First, I would bring Bradley Cooper because man candy.

The items I would bring are:
    1. My volleyball. Bradley and I can play, work up a sweat and then go for a dip.
    2. My camera. Need to document the trip.
    3. My pillow.
  • Oh love this! I would bring
    1. Camera
    2. Piano- I'd come back with mad skills
    3. And some sort of water toy like a surf board.

And probably Jennifer Lawrence/Katniss Everdeen. She'd keep me alive. Or I would choose Bear Grylls like other ladies pointed out.

That's a real thing?! Sounds awesome- terrifying but awesome!!

WHAAATTT??! That's insane. What kind of shark? Where were you? What happened? Omg so many questions! Not many ppl can say that

  • I would take my banjo so I might actually learn to play. A toothbrush because I hate my morning mouth. And I would bring a dictionary because I really need to work on my spelling and there are so many words I still don't know.

I could survive just fine so I would prefer to have a companion to entertain me. I'd make Amy Schumer tag along with me.

iPhone, sunglasses, and a hammock. I'd bring Ryan Gosling along.
    #1 Claire 12.17.13 & #2 EDD 5.11.16

  • These are always so difficult for me!

    I think I'd bring...
    1. My phone (can my battery last indefinitely please?) so that I can have pictures of my family, my books through kindle, music, and a place to write things down/type them. And who knows, maybe I could get a signal from a cruise ship wifi or something random...
    2. My cast iron pan. I think it would give me more food options than an open fire alone, and could come in handy as a weapon if push came to shove.
    3. First aid kit. I consider it basic, but it wasn't specified...and I really wouldn't want to go without one.

I'd take Harrison Ford with me because I'm sure that we would have some awesome adventures. Plus, he'd probably figure out a way to get us off the island on a self-made plane or raft or something impressive.
  • I would bring my scuba gear... Ok, more than 3 pieces, but it fits in one bin, that counts, right!? Also, a bottle of rum and a case of ginger beer. Because, dude, deserted island. Cocktails! Person I don't know...I've always wanted to meet and have coffee with Sean Astin. He's always entertaining and seems like a stand-up sort of guy.

  • 1) my phone

    2) My solar charger so I would have non stop music. Even w/o internet, the music and books I have on this sucker would keep me busy for ages.

    3) lots of sunscreen, I'm a burner :(

My person to have stuck with would be Jeffrey Dean Morgan because YUM!  Although . . . if it could be a fictional character ( this is make believe after all ) it would be Eric Northman from the Southern Vampire Series (aka Trueblood if you saw the TV show the books are based on) with the stipulation that he can't fly away!

1: a 55 gallon drum of sunscreen, possibly more. This sounds like a lot but I'll probably need the whole thing :/
2: Books written in English and German so I don't forget
3: Since this was written as an indefinite stay I'll throw in a tool bag with saw, hatchet/axe, hammer, and 1,000 nails. Tents only last for so long.

Who to bring: The already aforementioned Bear Grylls, or possibly Les Stroud of Survivorman fame. There's a lot that I don't know that one of them would about how to make it long enough to be found.
