What did you do and think afterwards... Maybe that was a bad idea?

So I just got back from Maui on our babymoon. It was amazing and beautiful and loved spending everyday on the beach and in the ocean. However it was very windy and there were huge swells resulting in massive waves crashing on the beach. Normally I would find it awesome, I love rolling around in the crashing waves, until I got caught off gaurd by one, smashed into the ground by the water and completely disoriented and immediately went into panic mode about baby. Who would have thought a day at the beach could result in me being scared of the water due to baby! Everything turned out totally fine, baby was kicking like a mad man this afternoon!

What have you done that afterwards you were like... 'oh shoot maybe I shouldn't have done that!'?

  • Took a 4 mile hike in 90 degree heat. I was exhausted, dehydrated and had awful cramps all night into the next morning.
  • Hot bath last night, took the temp of the water, turns out I like it about 105 degrees. Spent a restless night wondering if I'd hurt my baby.

I nearly got hit by a car today because I assumed the woman who slowed down before the crosswalk intended to actually stop. Nope! Literally had to run to avoid getting hit and the woman still didn't even notice me until I swore (to myself). A good reminder that some people are idiots and not to assume they are going to do the logical thing.

ETA: she also had a stop sign...
  • Was walking around my classroom with one of those plastic cube milk crates.  I was getting ready to go return it to the cafeteria and I went to my table to grab the lunch attendance when I hit one of the chairs that was pushed in and the crate went right into my belly.  It was as if I played bumper cars for a quick minute with the crate and my bump.  I did have some discomfort in my lower stomach area for a day or two from it, and it scared the living daylights out of me.  In my head, I just squished my stomach back to pre-pregnancy size.  I also don't usually bring that stupid thing back down to the cafeteria, I ask one of the kids.  I just happened to be on my break and decided to go do it quick.
  • In 1st tri I think I my workouts were a little too rigorous, and one day about an hour after I started cramping and spotting.  Scared the hell out of me.

  • This weekend we took DS to a pumpkin patch and went on a hayride. There were a couple of times the hayride got super bumpy, like I was actually bouncing out of my seat. For a while afterwards my belly was sore and I was super paranoid that I had hurt baby. Thankfully later she starting kicking around like crazy and now I feel completely normal.

  • Was on my feet helping set up for and being a part of a wedding this past weekend (Friday and Saturday) and by the time the ceremony was over I was in terrible pain. Luckily a little sitting time and a lot of water helped, but of course now I am questioning doing anything semi-strenuous
  • I broke up a fight between two high school boys at work. Luckily they weren't throwing any punches, just getting ready to do so. I threw myself in between them and told them to knock it off. It wasn't until my adrenaline wore off that I realized how stupid it was. I got a nice talking-to from my husband about that one!
  • 1) walked down wooden stairs in socks and slipped and fell down them and broke my tailbone

    2) I've eaten a number of things that I didn't stop to think if it was ok to eat until after

    3) ate spicy chicken and got crazy bad heartburn

    4) moved boxes and furniture and got a terrible back ache and BH contractions

    5) Google every little thing and convince myself of the worst
  • Worked really hard at a work overnight event, stayed up too late, carried tons of things around and hardly sat down for 2 days.  I don't think I hurt the baby at all, but I spent the next day and a half in bed, exhausted.  I still don't think I'm recovered, I just want to sit quietly with my feet up even 3 days later!
  • Every time I climb up on a non-ladder (like a desk at school) and have trouble getting down. Or my husband comes running up behind me and puts his hands on my back and says "woah" (the woah of course means "WTF are you doing").
  • Every time I do laundry and don't wait for my DH to help move the baskets around. I think, "Oh, it's just up the stairs, it will be faster if I do it myself" and by the time I get up the stairs I think, "Oh god I'm exhausted and that hurt, I should have waited" and then I do it again with the next load. (I do at least 3 loads every laundry day). Apparently I don't learn.

I do this all the time! I didn't realize how much I rely on my belly to support the basket until I was pregnant. My husband works out of town and I have no idea how I am going to get laundry done once I start getting bigger!

  • Last night DH was busy so I decided to break down all the furniture in the office by myself so we can start making room for the nursery. Big mistake. I'm still hurting from that
  • 1) first trimester (I work at a restaurant) I decided to actually do some work and grab the silverware tray ( it's rather large id say maybe - little bigger than the bottom if a milk crate) I turned the corner to place it on the table and I zoned out and walked the tray right into a door frame and right into my hip bone- I freaked out then realized baby is still behind my pelvic bone. I had the nastiest bruise for a week.

    2) I fell out of bed almost two months ago. Our bed is quite high ( I'm 5'7 bed comes up to about my hips- I have to hop to get in)
Luckily I fell mostly on my hands and legs I tried to cover it up with a laugh... Which turned into a cry... I was terrified I hurt my baby! At the time i couldn't feel him move due to the placenta- which made it worse! Few days later I had an dr appt and heard his heartbeat so I knew he was ok.
  • @cyanope I work as a Special Ed. teacher in an inner city school, and that is my biggest fear is that my adrenaline is going to get going and I'm going to step in, on the wrong situation.  I have to get certified in restraint training and behavior strategies every year, so it's a natural occurrence for me to have to remove kids and/or get in between kids. So far, I've only escorted one student who was a Kindergartner, but still got yelled at by almost every teacher and husband for doing so. Glad nothing too serious was happening, when you did it.
  • I accidently ate some dried mango today that expired in August.

  • Assessed a patient who I suspected had meningitis without a mask on, wore gloves but still, should have been better with precautions.
  • Took dd to the park on a relatively cool day (88 degrees) but I stayed in the sun too long and overheated - not a good feeling especially being alone with dd.

For those of you with laundry and stair issues, try a laundry bag rather than a basket. I used to just toss the bag down the stairs and drag it back up while holding the rail.
  • Went for an 8 mile run a couple weeks ago (bad enough in itself), started getting sharp pains in my abdomen at mile 6. When a man pulled up and asked me for directions for the hospital right near my house I asked him for a ride. I am not someone who would normally ask for rides from a stranger, but I was panicking about the pains, and he was an elderly guy so I thought my chances were good. The ride was fine, the pains turned out to just be round ligament pain so everything was good, but I felt like such an idiot for the run and the ride.
  • DH and I went on our babymoon to Ireland and we stayed at this castle with enormous grounds that you could explore by bike. It was very calm and beautiful so we took the bikes out, but somehow on the road I just got nervous (so weird to ride on the left side!) and fell off my bike. I haven't fallen off a bike since I was a kid! I wasn't going very fast, and pretty much caught my fall right away, but definitely had the "shouldn't have been doing that..." feeling right away!

@kksydI work as an RN in the ED and stuff like this happens all the time there. My coworkers think I'm crazy for gowning/masking for every little sniffle but better to be safe than sorry!

I just thought you should know that every time you post, I read it in Dwight's voice. That is all lol.
  • Last night, I worked on my stepson's Halloween costume, and used a lot of E6000 glue. For like three hours. It didn't seem like a lot of fumes until I left the room and then came back in.
After, the baby was bananas! I was really worried. I went outside for a good 45 minutes before she calmed down.
Let's just say I slept really lightly--worried I had done something wrong.

  • Last night, I was being lazy.
I was sitting in a recliner chair that you have to push the the leg part down with your legs (instead of the lever)
I decided to scoot down a little and get up without having to put the legs down...
Well, I scooted too much - ended up on the foot rest on the floor and the chair on top of me kinda. (Imagine a recliner see-saw)
Said out-loud " well that wasnt a good idea"
I didn't hit anything - brought me back to my childhood when I used to do that all the time, I won't be doing that again lol
