Anyone let LO lick...

anything? My grandmother told me to just try it. She's been going crazy with her fingers and hands.. She's healthy and well advanced for her age according to the doctor she's 2 months.. And no I'm not feeding her.. Or will continue.. It's just a one time thing.. But had anyone else tried to give baby a lick of anything.. I did an apple.. She liked it for a bit but I took it away after she tried sucking on it. Opinions?

Re: Anyone let LO lick...

  • My LO also likes to lick pretty much anything by her face. But I'm not going to introduce any types of food for awhile. I will be giving her baby food when she's four months but nothing else.

  • My husband tries to let him "taste" things all the time and I get mad. Like BBQ sauce, olive oil. He acts like he's joking but I know he really wants to.
  • We put Hazel on her boppy lounger on the dining room table to 'eat' dinner with us each night.  I always pull a piece of meat from my dinner and let her smell it.  I'm trying to encourage the development of all her senses.  Anyway, she often tries to lick it.  I haven't let her lick anything but I think it's natural for babies to explore that way.  I don't think sucking on an apple will hurt.
  • I've let mine taste food.
  • I let her lick a bit of ice cream off my finger when she was like 3 weeks old. She survived.
  • @lilyan1522 My husband keeps trying to get him to lick pickles.
  • I let her lick a corn chip. It was cool to see her reaction to the taste.

Not with my LO but with my niece I did. She was 3.5 months even thanksgiving rolled around. I didn't think it was fair for her not to at least taste the meal!!! She licked a cooked green bean and a small itty bitty dot of mash potatoes. She's three now and the smartest kid you'll ever meet!
  • My family threw a suprise happy 2 month party for my DD (it was kinda like a baby shower i guess as well) and they got a cake with me, my hubby and DD picture on it. So I got the wee tiniest littlest bit of frosting and put on the tip of her tongue. I don't even think she really noticed it cause it was such a little amount lol. But was still cute for her to 'try' her own cake. Probably won't do it again tho lol.
  • Nope. I'm not trying to rush anything. When her doctor says she's ready, then we will try. I don't see the need to have her try anything that has no nutritional value. I'm just Giving breast milk for now.
  • Sometimes she licks my arm, my boob, or my nipple. That's all she's getting a taste of until she's at least 6 months old!

All of this...but only when I'm feeling wild.
  • I accidentally gave LO a lick of apple, I was helping DD1 eat it while watching cartoons and automatically put it to LO's mouth instead of DD's! She looked alarmed lol.
