Infertility

New to The Bump. TTC almost 2 years.

Hello There! My husband and I have been TTC for almost 2 years now and haven't had any luck. I am 26 years old and he is 28. I am healthy other than a bit overweight. I have been diagnosed with PCOS by some doctors since I was 17 and other Doctors have said I don't have it. No cysts have ever been seen on my ultrasounds. I have irregular periods sometimes I don't get a period for 2 or 3 months and other times it's regular. When we started trying we just did the deed regularly and figured it'd happen when it was supposed to and it never did. After a year we got worried and started taking ovulation tests (none of which have ever come up positive) and spoke to my OBGYN who told me to just keep trying since I'm young it should happen. 1 yr and 10 months later here we are! 2 wks ago I went to a new OBGYN (because my last was kind of an insensitive jerk) who ordered blood work to check thyroid, progesterone, estrogen, glucose, cholesterol, and another to see if my Fallopian tubes are clear and all came back perfectly normal except my progesterone was way too low which means I didn't ovulate she said. She ordered my husband to get a SA (I've never seen my husband so worried about anything!) and he did and that came back normal so she finally gave the go ahead to begin provera and then clomid. I am on day 5 of provera now and I feel like crap but I'm so thankful to finally take a step toward what we hope so much is success! She also ordered another progesterone blood test during my first clomid cycle on day 21 to make sure it is working but I don't have any ultrasounds or anything scheduled which I've heard is common. I am so thankful that this kind of community exists because it's a scary thing to go through and to hope so much every month that this will finally be it and get crushed once again. Here's to hoping for babies and staying sane while waiting. Thank you all for being so open and honest in your posts! It really helps to know someone else out there understands the struggle when everyone around you is falling accidentally pregnant. (Although I am truly happy for them, just a bit jealous). Looking forward to being a part of the community and supporting each other in this chapter of our lives!

Welcome and congrats on taking a positive step!! GL and fingers crossed for you. I'm sorry your GYN was awful. It's ridiculous when they use their idea of some mythically appropriate age to worry about infertility. Like why on earth is it more reasonable or valid to be devastated about the failure to get pregnant at 33 than at 26?? Bc THE END IS NIGH? Silly man. I'm glad you switched and feel supported!

If you are annovulatory, you should definitely see a board certified RE rather than an OB IMO... So a few things they might not tell you but you need on your first cycle, (again, IMO): 1) clomid only works a few times then you're SOL and need new meds.
    2) clomid thins your lining! They aren't monitoring so do what you can, especially drink red raspberry leaf tea every day (not alternative med, actually proven to work and encouraged by REs).
    3) clomid and letrozol both disturb the production of egg white CM needed if you're not doing IUI. Make sure to support with an aid like preseed if you don't notice any fertile CM. :) hope this helps!!

  • I'm so sorry I haven't been back on to check these wonderful supportive comments! Work has been insane and long the last few days but what a treat to come back to. Thank you HBmamma2B for your great info and thank you to dreambig1021 and misshopeful1 for your kind supportive words. I will discuss the need of ultrasounds etc with my OBGYN but I live in a very small area and if it doesn't work out with her I have a single fertility clinic option and while my insurance doesn't cover fertility at all, my OBGYN visits are covered, just the tests and meds are not. My husband and I decided we would give it a go with 3 rounds of clomid before we dive into savings to see someone at the fertility clinic since his SA came back fine my OBGYN said she felt pretty good about my chances on clomid. FX! I only have 3 days of provera left and hopefully my cycle starts soon because we can't wait to get the real process started! We've been watching videos on YouTube of fun ways to announce to the family when you're pregnant and gender reveal etc etc and I'm so worried were allowing ourselves too much hope and excitement and that we may suffer a great fall. Here's to hoping we don't and staying positive though!
  • I constantly worry about getting my hopes up but lately I've figured I'm going to be upset even if I tried to prepare myself for the worst. At least if I remain optimistic (which trust me, I understand it feels impossible some days) I'll have that time of comfort and hope.

Good luck to you! Although this process can feel overwhelming, taking steps to get to your end goal feels good.

  • My DH and I have also been trying to conceive for 2 years. Advice: if you aren't successful within a few months with clomid, ask about injectables. The chances are much higher and at least you can time your ovulation with a trigger. GOOD LUCK to you and your husband. Happy baby vibes your way. Hopefully we will both get pregnant within the year!

  • Welcome and I am sorry you have to be here. Good luck on your fertility journey. It always feels good to being doing something and/or finding out things regarding the infertility. Or at least it does for me. I hope you get a pos ov kit soon....and a pos pg test :)
  • Good luck I wish you the best seems to me you was dealing with those reg gyno who don't even acknowledge the fact that something is wrong!!! I too, suffered the same problem and I'm 26 as well Clomid didn't work for me so with dh insurance we was able to see a fertility specialist whom did all the lab work and bam I got hit with the big PCOS which I already knew it however TODAY my fertility spec decided that Letrozole wasn't working for me either so next month we on to plan b however, I did get to see the follicles but those babies wasn't maturing so fingers cross to you and keep us updated :)

Welcome and good luck to you with the clomid treatment.  I am also similar to you in our history, although I'm a bit older (37) but I have PCOS and am slightly overweight, have never ovulated on my own, and needed provera at first to induce my period.  I currently take femara which is very similar to clomid, but I've found that the follicles (which they'll eventually check in an ultrasound for you!) don't grow without taking injectibles, so agree with @alqizwik you should ask about those if the clomid alone doesn't help.  The only downfall I've found to that is that it can get pricey if you're paying Out of Pocket, but there are ways to save if you look around.  I hope your stay on here isn't long but I think you will find it's a great place to get support if you need it: all the girls are very nice and can definitely relate!
