Prenatal massage

I searched and got 0 results so:

Anyone had one? I didn't with my first child but got a gift card from a friend for one. I've had friends say they had them and went into early labor. I think that's unusual probably but I will check with my doc before I go.

I really just want to know if anyone can tell me what is different about it and if they liked it or what not.

Re: Prenatal massage

  • I've gotten one at 29 weeks and plan to get 2 or 3 more before my due date. I loved it! It was so relaxing. I am not sure if it makes you deliver early. What I do know is that it can help you to have an "easier" delivery.

  • I have a pretty awesome insurance plan which gives me 40 massages a year. I have been utilizing this benefit for prenatal massages about every three weeks and its been awesome. The massage therapist positions you on your side rather than laying on your stomach and focuses on areas that I request just as a regular massage.

  • There was just a thread about this. I just searched "prenatal massage" and it was the first thing that showed up.

Well great looks like the site works for you then. Since I regularly have it delete posts and kick me off for no reason I got zero. Thanks for the help.
  • @jamiem522 I got really lucky with this pregnancy, I just literally switched from Blue Cross Blue Shield to Aetna/Foreign Service Plan during open enrollment time and it wasn't until after we found out we were expecting that I even had this benefit. If you get a chance to squeeze at least one appointment in before your due date I would highly recommend it! I would say it definitely has helped with relief of back and feet pain.

  • I have had 2 this pregnancy and 1 was pretty terrible but the other one amazing! Helped with my back pain and just tune out and relax. My first one i had to lie on my side and the second one had a bed with a hole cut out for the belly. So it was amazing just to be able to lie on my stomach for an hour :)
  • I had one at 33 weeks. Felt great while it was happening but still have had the same aches and pains.
  • My insurance covers so many chiropractic visits which luckily for me includes prenatal massage at their office. I see the chiropractor once a week and the massage therapist once a week for about 3 weeks now. Look into your insurance about it, I highly recommend it!
  • I'm 32wks and just had my third pregnancy massage yesterday. You lie on your side.
Really helps to relieve the stress and aches in your back & hip muscles.
  • I'm having one this afternoon. It will be my second one and I am SO excited!

  • I'm 35weeks, DH and I have been getting couples massages the whole pregnancy, just got one today!! Def with it!
  • I had one and it was meow like vigorously applying oil on my skin and she didn't get in there like I prefer. And because of the pressure points, she wouldn't massage my feet, which are the most sore

Weird, mine massages my feet. Only in certain spots mind you, but there are places they can touch still if they are familiar with pre-natal massage and accupressure.

  • I got one yesterday. Wasn't covered by insurance but it was lovely. I didn't have any issues with BH or anything after. Enjoy!
  • I was lucky enough to find a Groupon for a prenatal massage in my area. It was glorious, I really enjoyed it. And when I got home, I found my husband cleaning, which helped my relaxation even more
  • I've been getting prenatal massages once every 2-3 weeks ever since I was 10 weeks pregnant. And I LOVE THEM! You can go to places where they have a hole in the massage table for your tummy, but I go to Massage Envy and they have me lye on my side. The have a specific pad that you put the top leg over for support and a support pad for your side breast and arm. I ALWAYS request the massage therapist that is Prenatal Certified. They will do whatever areas you need done. She does my ham strings and buttocks as well. It feels amazing! Especially with how achey my back and legs become. It's perfect for any expecting Mommy! I say go for it, if your Doc approves of course, and ENJOY!

I got one at 28 weeks and it was nice, but wasn't as relaxing as a regular massage because I laid on my side with pillows and she couldn't massage certain areas because they can stimulate the uterus.

Supposedly the ones with the holes for your belly so you can lie flat aren't that great for you, but I feel like it may be more relaxing.
  • Oh I get one monthly! These make me happy for days! I've had one where they had pads with a belly hole (my fav) but my usual spa has me lay on my side with pillows (you'll be comfy regardless). Talk about pressure - as long as they're prenatal certified they'll be confident. My back and hips get a lot of attention and they make my hips/glutes feel soooo good! If you like massages, you'll love this treat!
