Anyone Else Close To 40 or Older?

I had my daughter at 33... 6 years ago. I'll be 40 when this LO is born. I've already received so much grief from my friends because she started K5 when they had college freshmen; that I'm wondering if I'm the only one. I had difficulty TTC so I put off babies until I was in my thirties (after several miscarriages, stillbirths, and a tubal pregnancy) and focused on my education and career... please tell me I am NOT the only one who is of AMA (advanced maternal age)!!!!

Re: Anyone Else Close To 40 or Older?

  • First, I'm so sorry for your losses. I'm not close to 40 but I just wanted to say that I've seen a lot of women here (TB in general) be of AMA and are doing great. I'm sure there are several on this board. This is a great support network so regardless of how old anyone is, you'll receive a lot of support here.

  • I had my first at 33 as well. I will be 38 when this LO it's born.

    11.2011 - DS1

    02.2013 - loss at 6 wks

    06.2014 - DS2

    10.2015 - loss at 12 wks

    03.2017 - DD

  • You are not the only one! I will be 38 when this one is born and I have 3 others (16, 12, & 3) I know a lot of people having babies at our age! Enjoy and don't listen the those negative people!
  • I'll be 37 and my husband will be 49, so we're "advanced" ;) And I'm also sorry for your losses. I had a m/c before my first was born.

  • I was37 when our twins were born and this baby is due on my 40th birthday ... You are not alone!
I do envy some friends that have so much freedom with their kids in highdchool .. I joke that we might have to get a pass from the old folks home to attend our kids graduations :D
  • Sorry for your losses!! I will be 38 when this LO is born. Had my first @34. I too did the career thing first, traveled the world all while my friends were having babies. Your not alone!!
  • I'm 38. Didn't even start ttc until 38, actually. Why would your friends give you a hard time?? I just went to a baby shower on Saturday for a woman who is 43. AMA is totally normal nowadays.

  • I'm 37! I had my 1st and only at 28 and he's so much younger than my friends' kids. He also has moderate autism, so developmentally he's a preschooler. I feel super old with this pregnancy, but I don't care. It's my last chance to have another one.
  • I'm 40!  :)  To be honest, I don't feel 40 - physically or mentally or emotionally - and I've always been a bit of a late bloomer.  Assuming this pregnancy goes perfectly, this will be our first.  Sometimes life just doesn't go quite as planned and this is the time that everything just clicked for us.  I've had several m/cs over the years, other years just had too much going on to think about a baby, tried for a year here and there with no results, got divorced, got remarried, etc etc.  I do worry a bit about having a kid in college when I'm 60, but 60 these days is still pretty young.  I'm just going with it.  :)  The bonus now is that I'm super stable, we have money, we're comfortable with ourselves and our life and the world, and all is pretty good.

^^^ This. I don't "feel" the way I think 38 sounds. Maybe it's because I didn't get KU early, move to the 'burbs and start driving a minivan.

  • Thank you! I'm glad I am not alone in this journey. :) I honestly don't feel 39 either. I guess it is all in how you look at things. ;)

Lol, probably some truth to this. I sometimes feel like having a kid sped up the aging process for me. I'm pretty damn boring these days!
  • I'm 37, will be 38 when baby is born. I have 2 kids who are 10 and 7 already so it's pretty Scarey to start it all again. I'm just praying that with my age everything goes smoothly. I'm really scared about having testing done to see if there is anything wrong with the baby. I didn't have any of these tests last time and just don't know how I would cope or make those kind of desicions that would have to be made. It's constantly on my mind every day. Xx
  • I'm 36 and will be 37 when this little one is born.  I have a 2.5 year old at home.

  • I'll be 39 when our twins are born.
  • I am 44yo and thought I was unable to conceive. Well for other health issues have been on a host of healthy supplements and strict diet in the last 18 months. Probably changed everything. Only 5w 4day but universe willing this will be my first. I am generally young in spirit and body but definitely a surprise. Crossing my fingers.
  • I'm 38 this is my first baby. Due right before my 39th birthday.
  • 39, second baby, first is 16 months! Didn't get married until I was 35 and had some difficulties.
  • I'm 38, but will be 39 when baby is due. This is my 3rd, I was 34 and 36 when DS and DD were born so I don't feel that much different now.

  • I'm 36; my husband will be 40 in a few months. We started TTC right after we got married in 2005. After 5 years of IF we had our first in late 2010. In 2013 baby #2 came along. Now I'm pg with #3. I'm a small business owner working in a male dominated industry and my husband is a SAHD. People have ALL kinds of opinions about all kinds of aspects of my life.

  • I'm 42. This is my second pregnancy. I was 40 when I had my first. Maybe it's where I live (NYC) but I meet and know a whole bunch of 35+ moms. It's actually pretty common here. My OB/GYN just had her 4th baby last year at 40 and she was totally supportive of me trying to have another baby at 42. When I called her office to tell her the news and set up my first appointment, she was pretty excited for me.
  • I'm 37 and this is my first pregnancy. It feels pretty normal to me to be having a kid at this age. I don't know if it's where I live but I know only one person who had kids in her 20s. Everyone else have had kids in their 30s and several in their late thirties/early 40s. My mother had me in her 40s as well.

Like others, because my life has not dramatically changed since I was in my 20s, my mindset hasn't either. I don't feel my age. I still live in a downtown apartment within walking distance of everything and have been relatively free and able to travel/do as I like my whole life. I was chatting with the one friend I have who had kids in her 20s (she's now 35) and she was telling me that she is really happy to be getting her freedom back as her kids are finally all in school. In contrast, I'm a bit bored of my freedom and am looking forward to having a dependent and trying something new. Life is funny and what's right for one person, may not be right for someone else.

Best of luck to you all.
  • I'm 42 my husband is 35 and we are happily pregnant and excited about having a healthy normal baby in May
  • I will be 42 in a month time. This is my second pregnancy,I was 33 when I had the first one. After trying for years I gave up but God did this unexpectedly ,the baby is due next year May.
  • Welcome and congrats bunmilofe
  • Glad I'm not alone. I'm 38 and was 35 when DD was born. Feeling my age a little more this time around, but that could also be because I decided to start Grad School this fall, get pregnant and work full time. Apparently I was feeling like Wonder Woman this summer.
