SCH/Preeclampsia

Well this is only my second post on here so I guess I should do a little history. I'm 5w 6d with my second. My first was born 12/28/11 at 37 weeks after I had been in bed rest for the last two months due to hypertension. I was in labor with him for 38 hours, pushed for about 3 hours before I gave up and asked for a c-section. The c-section was awful! I vomited through the entire experience and with my phobia of vomit, weird I know, it was one of the worst experiences of my life. After I gave birth I had a very hard time bonding with my son. I wound up having to have a blood transfusion and was later put on a magnesium bag for post-partum preeclampsia while my little one spent time under the lights for high bilirubin. We finally left the hospital after 11 days. I suffered from terrible post-partum depression that bordered on psychosis for a year after that.
I now adore my 3 1/2 year old little one more than I could ever explain in words!

Fast forward to this pregnancy. Im over the moon happy to be pregnant, not at all like my last. However, I have had the worst miscarriage paranoia since I found out. Then last night, I started to bleed. We ran to the ER and had a vaginal US and saw a heartbeat. I was so relieved! Then the doc came in and told us I am having a threatened miscarriage due to a subchorionic hemorrhage. It is small in diameter but I'm still bleeding. I go back to the ER on Monday to recheck my HCG levels to make sure they're going up. On top of all of this I weaning off of my antidepressants and having terrible withdrawal symptoms ( dizziness, brain snaps, flu like symptoms.)
I don't really have a question but am hoping somebody has been through something hint similar and can give some advice. I put myself on bed rest until I can see the doctor again, as I read this can help. The ER doc just said, "take it easy."
TIA

First of all, I'm afraid to throw-up, too! Second, I had a "small" SCH the last half of my first trimester and the first half of my second. Stay hydrated, avoid bumps, definitely pelvic rest and don't do any heavy lifting or anything that could raise your blood pressure. There's a great divide when it comes to bed rest, but I'm all for it. My doctor never mentioned the risk of miscarriage with my SCH, although I did see it on my paperwork when I graduated to a high risk specialist at 11 weeks. I know it's scary, but since it's small that's good and since you bled, it very well may have passed (they either bleed out or your body absorbs them).

Of course! I had never heard of one nor had anyone I knew before I had mine, I know it's scary! I had mine for so long that I eventually got used to it and quit asking about it during ultrasounds. By the time I finally asked again, they told me that it wasn't showing up anymore. I'm sure your little pest will go away, too. :)

I have been bleeding for 5 weeks. Bleeding started at 16 weeks and I'm now 22 weeks with no bleeding for a week. It's been so scary but my baby is doing great! Mine was under the placenta and caused the corner to lift which caused extreme bleeding!! My docs were all for total bed rest so I was in bed for 4 weeks and having weekly scans. Had one in Friday and the hematoma is still there but no longer bleeding so we are hoping it's going to start to absorb. The doc said that some women will have it throughout and it just is one of those things.

Don't google too much! It made me a little crazy at one point but take it very easy and have as much bed and chill time as possible.

I took arnica and it did help with the bleeding and was put on progesterone injections.

Bleeding while pregnant is horrifying! I have never been so scared and seen so much blood. I suggest getting a home Doppler, it saves my sanity! Every time I had a heavy bleed I would just listen to the baby's heart beat and felt at peace.

    All the best!

Omg! You're a God send! I'm trying to take it easy, although the ER doc didn't give me any particular instructions about activity. What scares me is being on bed rest for the rest of the pregnancy. I was tiny last time I was pregnant and still got preeclampsia. Now I am very much overweight and really wanted to exercise to decrease the chances of repeat preeclampsia. Thanks for the Doppler suggestion!!!

Most SCH's that develop in the first tri do resolve thenselves. I was diagnosed with a large SCH around 15 1/2 weeks after a massive hemorrhage. Happy to say I'm 28 weeks and baby is absolutely fine, even though the SCH has stuck around.
As PP's have said - take it easy, stay on pelvic rest. Chances are if its small it has a great chance of re-absorbing!

Thanks for all of the answers, I really appreciate it! I started bleeding at 5w 5d and stopped at 6w 3d. I have not only spotted, very light brown blood, once since then. Yay! My next appt is on the 2nd and I'm hoping my sch has resolved itself. Here is my question, I have been on pelvic rest since the first time I bled, mostly because I wanted to. The doc actually said just no sex or heavy lifting/exercise. I live in FL and want to go to the beach. I heard that baths are a no no but what about the ocean? I still won't be jumping waves or really swimming just maybe a dip to cool off. Any thoughts? Also, minor sure if this makes a difference but we swim a lot on the lagoon (tide pool) so it's not completely stagnant but definitely does not move like the ocean, is that ok?

My doctor didn't want me in a bath, pool, lake, etc. You could still go to the beach, of course, but I'd put a call into your doctor and see what they advise.

Afraid to vomit too! I'm surprised they let you labor that long with high blood pressure. I had a bad experience with my last delivery as well ( though not as bad as yours). They gave me Pitocin but refused to pop my water. I went to 10cm with my water still intact, which caused horrible back labor and vomiting. Yay. I had high blood pressure as well, so I had to be on the magnesiun for 24 hrs after delivery. I have a new doctor for this pregnancy and when I told him what happened he said they should have popped my water. They should not have let me labor that long in that kind of pain. Here's hoping for better deliveries!

@qtpi145 you got some awesome responses from PP's here. here's my experience: i had two SCH that bled EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. from week 5-14. they weren't big in size, they were just bleeders. i was put on pelvic rest as well, and took it a step further and put myself on bed rest, and it really did work wonders for me! also, i did weekly acupuncture and my acupuncturist put me on an herb called san qi that i think helped. i would not, however, recommend you do that without checking with your doctor first (if you even decide that's a route you would be interested in). my ob and my specialist are very eastern medicine-friendly and were all about the acupuncture. also drink lots and lots of water. unfortunately i was advised quick showers, no pools/baths/or even beaches. in fact we ended up having to cancel our summer pensacola trip :(

i had a question for you about the pre-e...i've recently been experiencing high BP (both systolic and diastolic, but particularly diastolic which has ranged between 85-98). my MFM told me i'm probably going to develop pre-e, that it's just a matter of time. i'm curious when you were diagnosed, and what parameters did they use to diagnose you? also, did you end up taking any medication or do anything special to make it to 37 weeks? i'm only 31 weeks and docs aren't very confident i'll make it past 34.
