Swimming post partum

I am 5 weeks post partum and I really want to go in water.... How soon did you all go into water after labor? What can happen if I don't wait the whole 6 weeks?

    I'd ask your OB. I'm not a swimmer nor do I take baths but it would be awful if you got an infection from chlorine or something.

    Wait another week for your 6 week checkup. Your doctor will let you know then if you're allowed to swim/take baths/etc. You can get an infection if your body isn't fully healed yet, so it's best to wait the full 6 weeks.

    My midwife was fine with me going in as soon as I felt up to it and the blood flow wasn't problematic. That was 2 weeks PP for me. FWIW, keep in mind that babies can be born in water and thus mama is in water immediately after the birth.
