Hayfever Hell

I never have spring allergies, but August and September are always AWFUL. This morning my right eye was insanely itchy and from me rubbing it it is now so puffy and swollen, despite ice, that it looks like DH must have hit me. I got some Zyrtec on the way to work but the pharmacist told me there wasn't enough data on any allergy eye drops for her to recommend any during pregnancy. Zyrtec, please kick in ASAP!

Re: Hayfever Hell

  • I feel ya.  Mine just started and it usually lasts for a couple weeks for me.  It sucks because it's super nice out, but I've just been leaving the windows closed when I'm at home and that seems to help.

  • I'm in the same boat with awful allergies. I was prescribed Xyzal to take daily, both this pregnancy and last time. It's helped immensely. It's category B and works way better than Allegra or Zyrtec, IMO. I was also prescribed Pataday eye drops and Patanase nasal spray to take in addition on really bad days. They're category C, but non steroidal. I've used the eyes drops here and there when just the pills weren't enough.

  • monaclemere  Thanks for that info! I'll look into those if the Zyrtec doesn't work.

I never have eye problems but I have insane sinus problems with my allergies, my doc said OK to flonase. If not for that I'd have constant legit sinus infection so the potential risk was outweighed.
  • I was prescribed Rhinocort which is category B, it is the only thing that allows me to function.
  • Oh god! Me too!!! Dying. My first pregnancy I just suffered through it so badly. This time I've taken nose spray and also just started using Rhinocort! I'm nervous about it but my midwife and mother risk assure me it's ok to take and the benefit outweighs the risk. Is yours the inhaler??? Mine is. It is a steroid, but apparently been more widely tested than the generic OTC nose sprays. I was also told reactine and Allegra are safe too. I have used those yet but they also assure me that we need to take care of ourselves and the lack of oxygen from not being able to breathe properly is even more detrimental.

Hoping for a quick ragweed season. I'm usually ok once the first frost hits... Sorry to be wishing for cold weather.
  • My allergies started messing with me yesterday. Feel like death. Took benedryl for the first time and years before work. Bad idea. I was so loopy I can't even remember half the conversations I had. Called Dr today and she said to try claritin so hopefully this works
  • If you can get your hands on some pure lavender essential oil, place a bit under your eye and over your eye brow. I recommend youngliving but if you can only get some of another brand (as long as it's 100% pure) you should be good to go. This has been a life saver for me.
