We're doing a jungle theme for the nursery and shower. The invites say "lions and tigers and bears oh boy!" Side bar question for you ladies...are you having men at your shower? It's totally unheard of in my side of the family and DH thinks it's weird too, but his family thinks it should be men and women. Just curious what you all think.
It was a little different with ours anyway and having a sip and see but it was as much a first in my family as it was to have men there. Everyone really liked it. I found it a lot more casual than any female only shower I'd been to.
Jack and Jill showers are becoming more popular. Maybe his family can throw him a diaper party at the same time as your shower so that all the men have somewhere to go. Even just a barbecue to celebrate dad while you are being showered could be nice.
I am doing a travel or around the world themed nursery. I have a quilt with fabric called "what a world" which is a world map and has pictures of different international cities with their iconic landmarks in primary colors. Part of the reason I chose this is being a very multicultural family I think it will be cool to include things from multiple cultures intentionally in the decor. My main decoration other than the quilt will be a shelf of "toys" from the LO heritage cultures (i.e swedish dala horse, russian nesting doll, a toy my DH had as a child in Ukraine etc, my goal is to get 6-8 distinctive "toys" that would be iconic and respresent each heritage culture). I got an 8x10 print that says I love you in Ukrainian with a picture of Ukraine, DH speaks Russian and Ukrainian in addition to English and LO will learn at least Russian. In a rental with white walls pops of primary color should be fun!
We are doing an Alice in wonderland theme in the nursery so my best friend went ahead and used that theme for the shower as well. The invite starts with "don't be late for a very important due date". Someone asked if anyone was having guys at the shower. I would tag who it was but I'm on mobile and it made me sign in again just to write this reply and I just didn't feel like scrolling through to find whoever asked. But yes, I'm having guys at mine. Mine is being hosted at the bar I just stopped working at (weird I know but its the only place big enough for everyone) and a lot of the guy patrons wanted to come so I scheduled it for a Sunday during football so they would have something else to do if they got bored with the baby stuff. Also since there will be guys we made some of the games interesting so that they might want to play. The bar has corn hole boards and I got bean bags that look like sperm hahaha. Also playing "bobbing for nipples". As for the nursery we are doing beige with a mint blue accent wall and little pops of bright colors. I crocheted LO a blanket that reminds me of the Cheshire cat in color but I don't want the whole room to seem cartoonish. I'm also making a lamp base out of tea pots. I'm super excited about it!
