First IUI this Month

Hi everyone! I'm rather new to this... So bare with me. My husband and I have been TTC for over a year now. We've been on Clomid the entire time bc of our history. This month will be the first time we do IUI. I'm rather nervous. What should I expect? Is it painful?

Re: First IUI this Month

  • Welcome! Hopefully your stay is short! Have you been doing Clomid for a whole year? There's usually a max of 6 cycles given how it can thin the lining. I haven't done my IUI yet (early next week), but it doesn't seem to be very painful (if at all) from what I've heard.
  • Welcome @TheCornells! I recently had my first IUI, and am currently on the dreaded 2WW... Time just needs to hurry up!  :!!

As @KidShrink said, Clomid has a limit of 6 cycles, so make sure you check that out.

The IUI itself isn't painful, more like uncomfortable. I experienced cramps during mine. Did you do an HSG? That hurts WAY more than the IUI. The day of and the day after, however, I was super bloated, and just didn't feel great.

  • 12 DPIUI, I am seeing a faint line, am I crazy?!

  • I have my first IUI this month as well! That's strange that they have had you on clomid so long, my doctor told me a year ago that the max they want you on it is 6 months, and he only gave me three cycles of it before we stopped. Anyway, GL with the IUI, same to you @KidShrink. We will all be going through it together! :)

Thanks for the kind messages everyone! I'm a little new here, what do all these abbreviations mean? It hasn't been a whole consecutive year of Clomid there were a couple months we were not on it. I'm heading to the University of Iowa in vitro fertilization clinic here in about two hours for our preliminary meeting. It's my first appointment to figure out our plan of attack. The nurse said it can take five hours, I will be meeting with many many many doctors so I will make sure to ask. Does anyone have any other questions I should ask? Good luck to everybody else that's on this journey!! :)
  • Congrats! I had my 1st IUI last month and had no clue what to expect either. I had letrozol with an ovidrel trigger. What to expect: The IUI itself was incredibly quick. Took the doctor 2 minutes maybe, so that was unexpected. It wasn't uncomfortable like the HSG, I had a very 'that was it? moment after. Told my husband it was 'anticlimactic'.

They did the US and trigger the day before showed me 2 follicles, took maybe 45min. Next day: We went in at 7:30, sample at 8, IUI at around 8:30 and off to work by 9.
