Puppy Birthday Parties?

So I might be completely crazy (my DH thinks I am)... but to help get my mind off the WTO and TWW periods, I have decided to throw my soon-to-be 2 yr old puppy a birthday party. We don't have any human babies, so I treat my fur babies just like family. I know it's a bit weird, but just wondering if others do the same...

Also, figured since it's Friday, why not have a puppy party here too!! :D

Is the puppy birthday party going to be a big to do?  Are we inviting friends and family? Or is this just you, DH and pup?  I won't say that i haven't gotten a new toy or a special treat or given my little guy a steak bone on his birthday, but never invited all friends and family for a party.  That might be crossing the line.

@MNturnsVA just thinking of having a few of our neighbors over with their two dogs - so it's really more of a fun puppy play date with tennis balls and some extra peanut butter treats.

I know someone that gets those fancy dog-friendly cupcakes and grills him a steak for each birthday, but it's usually just him and his wife "celebrating"....unless DH and I beg for yummy grilled steak also... ;)

And, puppies. In bowties! Cause, why not?

I've never done anything for a dog's birthday, but growing up, our dog did have a Christmas stocking. I even used glue and glitter to put her name on it. She would always get excited on Christmas morning because she knew she was getting new treats!

Last Christmas was the first in our family without her, and she was missed :(

@meg032085-That sounds like fun and perfectly acceptable   :)    Our little man is not very well socialized with other dogs at all, so something like that would not be a good time over here!  But more of a social play date sounds fun

DH and I bought birthday hats for us and our dog and got him a puppy ice cream treat for his birthday.  A 'party' may be a little weird, but I don't think celebrating your pets birthday in some way is!

We usually give our dogs a special treat on their birthdays. I might roll my eyes a bit at a real party though! And I'm pretty far on the extreme end of the treating-dogs-like-children spectrum.

Our dogs also get Christmas stockings!

We usually give them a special treat around their adoption dates (go rescues!!) and usually a new toy for Halloween, Christmas and Valentine's Day. But that's more because I think the toys are adorable. We do put up Christmas stockings. They are our family, but we don't throw them birthday parties!

My dog babies get parties every year. I'm the only one to buy them presents though. It consists of a presents, party hats, anD cake for dogs and humans. I tell my friends about it but they don't have to come. I have two friends that always come for the cake and bbq. My dog babies don't really care so it's more like a regular Saturday except I spent more money on the dogs.

I normally give my fur babies something special around their adoption dates too and give them some extra attention. I did bake a cake for my parents' dog when I was living with them; he loved it!

@mrstmoose - I like the idea of giving your rescue pups a special treat on their adoption day. I'll have to that this year with our older lab.

I love it! In the late '80s/early '90s, my family and their group of friends all had Schnauzers that all came from related litters...They threw a huge dog 'reunion' party at a park with everyone and their pups...We're talking about 30 dogs...They all always talked about how fun it was

My dogs are totally like children! They are currently 5 and 7 years old and every year on their bdays they get a new toy, special treats, a trip to the dog park, and get to sleep on the bed!!! Never done an actually party but they are definitely spoiled and celebrated!!

We totally do it too. We go to Petco, get dog ice cream, a new yummy bone and sprinkled dog cookies. We also praise and sing happy birthday.

Well, we did that with our old girl on her birthdays. She passed a couple of years ago from cancer. We rescued another one just recently. They don't know when her birthday is but we plan to make one up and do the same for her.

I don't think it's crazy at all. I mean, from what I've heard, they are like having kids and we definitely consider our animals (cat and dog) as members of our family.

I have never had a dog birthday but my mom has one every year for her dog with a birthday cake. It gets awkward at birthday parties at my moms now when the dog gets excited and thinks the cake is for her.

Absolutely acceptable!! We do a puppy party too! Just me, DH, and the birthday boy though. We do a homemade dog cake or dog ice cream with a candle, sing happy birthday, and then open presents. I actually put the toys/treats in gift bags for him to go through and find... haha.
Maybe I'm a little wacky too, but he's my baby!
