Anyone else?- not looking for medical advice

I'm just going to start by saying that I'm not looking for medical advice. I've already decided that if this continues I will go to the doctors after work. Just need to vent a bit and see if others are feeling similar or have in the past and what happened with them.

So yesterday after my iv (iron) I was feeling shaky and nauseous but assumed it was just low food intake. But while I was eating I was thinking about how my bp was 140/90 and thought "that doesn't seem right". So I continued with my day. I was still nauseous and was developing a headache but figured I could finish my shift at work. When I got home I was looking at paperwork and my bp is usually 112/60. Not being a dr, not sure what this means other than it was a change.

Fast forward to 3 am and I was having lots and lots of pressure and the occasional (every few minutes) lightning feeling, but baby was (and still is) moving happily around. I could not easily get out of bed this morning though as there was so much pressure.

I really wanted lo to wait until my forced maternity leave starts on weds (severe edema) but I'm starting to have doubts. I'm 38 weeks today so I'm not too concerned if he does decide that he's ready.

Anyone else have similar situations? What did you do? Or did it just pass?

  • From what I've heard, pre-e starts with high bp and headaches are common. Either way, if you're feeling that "off", that's not normal. I've never dealt with your specific concerns but I would definitely agree that going to the dr to discuss would be best. That stuff is nothing to mess around with!

  • I am in a very similar situation. My blood pressure over the last week has been rising slowly. Last week at my appointment it was 145/90. The doctor ordered a bunch of tests to make sure everything was functioning correctly. All levels came back normal. There was protein in my urine dip but it leveled out in my 24 hour catch.

I have been monitoring my blood pressure daily at different times so I can discuss them with my doctor. The other day it shot up to 145/110. I called my nurse and she reassured me that yes it is high but if it gets over 160/110 to come into labor and delivery. My bp will shoot up and then come back down like yours. I have daily headaches and see dark/light spots occasionally. My swelling is outrageous, I gained over 5 pounds in a week. This is what promoted all the tests.

My doctor has told that she plans on a medical induction this week or next before my bp gets out of control. She says that preeclampsia can develop overtime.

That being said I would call your doctor and let her know your symptoms. The tough thing with hypertension/ preeclampsia is that the symptoms we experience are similar to those of women who are in their third trimester, at least this is what my doctor says.

I think the lighting crotch and pressure you are feeling is apart of pregnancy. It seems like mine gets worse towards the end of the day and into the night. But I am not a doctor and I say if your feeling off call your doctor or head up to the hospital so they can check you out.

  • I know you said you are planning on calling your doctor but seriously what the heck are you waiting for?

  • Thank you for your input ladies. I'll have coverage here at work in about 10 minutes and I'll give them a call. I've been putting it off just because each symptom by itself doesn't seem bad at all. And as I said baby seems happy as a clam as usual. Any of these symptoms could just be normal pregnancy things so I didn't think it was worth getting too upset about. I'll call and find out what they think though. I appreciate the help!
  • No experience, but I hope everything turns out to be just fine. I'm glad you are going to call though. Better to be safe.
  • Thank you, I've called and they want me to go in. Heading out now. Of course I can't get ahold of my husband to update him. Typical :)
  • T&P, keep us posted!
  • I hope all goes well. TnP's!
  • Thank you all so much. I'm home now. They decided that it probably isn't preeclampsia, and that the baby is very very low. Plus mild contractions and weather are making me have all of these symptoms. I can say that I did feel awfully silly in there being like "I have a headache and lots of other normal pregnancy symptoms" while I can hear a woman delivering in the very next room. How many shades of red can a person turn?

I agree, never feel embarrassed for getting checked out! I'm sure they've seen it all.
"Better safe than sorry" should be tattooed on all of our arms!

    Glad everything turned out ok
    :)
  • @emmiemae08 do not feel embarrassed at all! You know your body better than anyone. I went in last week because some things were "off" and my doctor was actually glad that I called and went in, even if it was midnight. As she said, "It's better to be safe than sorry, especially being this far along." I'm glad you are okay!
