August 2015 Moms

Thank God for maternity leave!

I am on my third day of maternity leave and it is soooo nice! My ankels look normal, I can nap when I want, pee when I want ( instead of finding a place to stop in my work load to get up and pee) I am catching up on house work , so I feel more relaxed about that. Its like night and day difference on how I feel mentally and physically. O and I don't hear the daily comments about my body/ pregnacy from myco workers. Hope anyone else who has started their leave Iis enjoying it as much as I am!

Re: Thank God for maternity leave!

  • I wish I was on leave but I'm trying to wait til I go in to labor or just before my due date. I have been out sick for the past 8 days though and it has felt nice to be at home. If I was able to get stuff done it would have been even better but I could barely walk to go to the bathroom let alone get any cleaning done.

I've been on leave forever and I love it!
  • Today was my last day. I can't even describe how good it felt to clock the button and turn my email out of office on! Really looking forward to getting caught up and rested!
  • Monday was my last day.  I loved it at first but I'm already going out of my mind!
  • Today was my last day. Put up an out of office message through Jan 2016, that felt awesome

I have a lot to keep me busy we are remodling our current home amd moving in to our new home.

I have a lot to keep me busy we are remodling our current home amd moving in to our new home.
Yesterday I was so bored I was recaulking the tub in the bathroom.  We're trying to cut down on expenses since we're going down to a single income, but sitting around the house just makes me sit here and think of more projects to do for the house... which unfortunately all cost money or i'm not physically able to do it since I'm moving around like a turtle this entire week :/
  • Very nice! Glad you're able to take the time! I'm working until I have her BUT I'm having my replacement take over on Monday. Out of office message refers everyone to her. I'll just need to help her adjust and hold her hand a bit. Not too bad!
  • Today is my first day off and honestly the best thing is not hearing any more comments about my appearance.
  • Mat Leave is the best!! Loving it and feel the same.. So much better than when I was working - like a new woman (most days..) then again we are also moving so I can keep busy. But I feel so much more capable than I have in weeks!!
  • Jealous..... I'm working til I pop!
  • I. Can't. Wait.  Only 5 more days of work!!!
  • I went out on short term disability 6/10 and I'm so glad I made the decision to go out early. The majority of the aches and pains I was having have subsided (with the exception of the last couple of weeks as I don't think those can ever be avoided).

I've had the energy to get everything ready for the baby and really focus on myself the last few weeks. Looooving it =D>
  • So jealous! I had 2.5 weeks off (the family I work for went on vacation) and just started back to work starting at week 39 :-( I miss my time off and wish my boss would just let me be done until after baby. I already found them someone to cover for me, and I really don't feel like being there all day anymore. Plus, we are getting a new roof on Monday, I gave multiple doctor appointments this week I have to work around, and I want to thoroughly clean the house this week since they will induce me if I don't have the baby this week. It's too much.
  • I'm a teacher and we are on a year-round type schedule, so I was off for summer break for about 6 weeks and loved it! I have been back at work for two weeks now and have about four weeks left to go. I have a scheduled csection on 8/24, so my last day of work will be 8/21 (assuming he stays put until then of course).

Lol I'm glad to see most of the mommas are enjoying their leaves! I start mines in two weeks and I can't wait to rest and get off my feet. Seriously, my ankles and feet are swollen like balloons!
Wishing the best of luck to the other mommas sticking it out with work until baby comes!
  • I am a teacher and have been off since June 5th. I'm due August 4th and my actually leave starts August 13th (first day of new school year for teachers). I will return in October. Everyone jokes, "Wow, you planned that well!" but it wasn't planned (at all, haha).

It has been so nice being off and I hope all you ladies are enjoying every second of being home and prepping for your LOs. I know things are about to change drastically. We so deserve this time to dedicate to ourselves and all of the changes about to happen.
  • I've been off for a month and loving it! I'm trying to understand maternity leave in the u.s.a are you guys entitled to time off paid? Here in the u.k I recieve paid leave for a year the pay drops to half after 9 months so I'm soaking up the time. I'm curious what you guys get!?!?
  • @talisha1992 wow I am jealous!! Sounds like you have it made over there!

It varies in the US really depending on your occupation. Some companies offer better leave than others. As a teacher, I am only entitled to 12 weeks and the amount of paid time depends on how many sick/personal days I have- only get paid for those days.

I am only taking 6 weeks because it affects my certification if I miss a certain number of days. :(
  • I work for a university in USA (government job!), am working until I go into labor, and get 6 weeks from that point. Over the past week, I have wanted so badly to just not go in due to aches/discomfort (I'm pretty sure this child is playing footsie with my spine! :(( ).
  • @talisha1992 I work for a large consulting firm in the US and we get 16 weeks paid leave, plus can use up to 10 weeks pto. I'm taking 5.5 months total

That's a lot more than the norm here, companies only have to offer 6 weeks I believe, and it doesn't have to be paid
  • That's insane. Best of luck to everyone no matter how long you have off. Not long for us now :)

@talisha1992 I get zero paid time off and can only take 4-6 weeks or so off since my boss needs me back. That's the downsize of not working for a large company here. They aren't required to give you anything and you also get zero assistance from the government.

I'm so bored already and I've still got about 2 weeks to go and not sure if I'll go crazy or not lol. I wish I could've worked until I popped tbh I know a lot of moms don't have that option so I should be grateful but erg.

I feel your pain! I'm in the same boat (well I'm technically "contracted"). Enjoy every minute with your little one that you can!! I hope the transition back to work isn't too challenging for you (I'm gonna be a wreck!). 4-6weeks is just not long enough :-(
