Anyone use Menopur & Ovidrel before?

Hi guys, I am new to this board. I was wondering if any of you have used Menopur with Ovidrel trigger shot before? I start it on my next cycle and was just wondering what experience people who used it had and if it worked for them?

My DH and I have been TTC for 19 months now. I've been diagnosed with hypothalamic amenorrhea, but did just start getting somewhat regular periods... still not ovulating. Had to wait for new insurance to kick in for 2015 before starting treatment, had my first appointment in March and then had to get my iron and Vitamin D levels under control before we could proceed. Now here we are!

That's my protocol with also with cetrotide. I seem to have a high tolerance for hormones, so I basically don't even notice that I'm taking it. I also got successfully pregnant on it. I take the single highest dosage you can take (450 twice per day) and generally feel fine (maybe a little crazy, some minor bloating).

    Good luck with your cycle!

  • Thank you. They are starting me on 75 once a day, I am hoping it works.

    What is the cetrotide?

Cetrotide keeps you from ovulating - I used that protocol for an IVF round. It sounds like you're doing either timed intercourse or IUI, yes?

I'm a very low responder and managed to get five usable follies on Menopur. I'm actually a little surprised they're starting you on something that strong, but I'm not super familiar with hypothalamic amenorrhea so I'm sure it makes sense!

  • I too have a high tolerance for hormones and don't even notice being on the. I only took ovidrel for an iui cycle and it was not successful. I never used it for IVF cycles because my RE doesn't believe it is strong enough for the final maturation process that eggs need to go through to make them mature. I also have used menopur but only half a vile per day during IVF cycles because my RE also believes too much menopur is not good for eggs, and that has also proven to be right for me. But many women do very well on menopur and ovidrel otherwise they wouldn't sell it. If your only problem is not ovulating and a few vitamin deficiencies you should hopefully do well once they get you ovulating and you have a fair chance like the rest of ovulating women. Best of luck and keep us posted on how you do.

For my first cycle of IVF I had to take menopur, bravelle, centrocide, and eventually the ovidril trigger.  Luckily it was successful for us.  Good luck to you!
  • I am on day 10 of my first iui cycle with menopur and ovidrel for hypothalamic amenorrhea as well. So far things are moving very slow...was on only 1/2 a vial for 6 days, and they then increased to 1 vial. Went today and i have many many follicles, but still none that are measurable. They said my endometrium is thickening though, so it's a good sign that everything is "waking up". My last period was all the way back in December, so they said it might take a bit but didn't want to start off too fast. I don't notice any side effects from the medicine, although I am super emotional but I think that's just because of the situation in general!!
  • Thank you everyone!

jnissa  - Yes, we are doing IUI. With hypothalamic amenorrhea I am not ovulating at all because issues with my brain. Mainly because I don't have high enough body fat/working out too much. Both of which 've been working on. I think having a regular-ish period again is a good sign that I am sorting things out though.

laur2444 - It's nice to see someone who is going through the same thing as me! My doctor is having me start out on a full bottle each dosage. I hope that isn't too much too fast. Are you doing the under the skin or into the muscle shots?

przemosbabe  - Thank you for your input and information. I'll definitely keep everyone posted!

Crystal321  - If it worked for you hopefully it will work for us, though we are doing IUI not IVF so the chances are less but I'll keep my fingers crossed. And congrats on being pregnant! :)

Interesting! I always ovulated, but my RE made me gain 10 pounds before we started treatment because I was too underweight. Of course, as soon as I gained 10 pounds everybody thought I was pregnant, which was awkward since we'd been trying for 8 months at that point with no success and bad numbers. Not to worry - the IF hormones are going to make gaining weight a lot easier for you :)

    Good luck!

  • @AdorkablePixie I am doing them subcutaneously.....I don't know everyone responds differently my doctor wanted to be super cautious but I wish she started me higher I feel like it's taking way to long for anything to happen. I'm a big runner, so even though I'm 5 ft 3 and weigh 125-130, they think that is causing the lack of ovulation, along with a little bit of a PCOS component as well. Just really frustrating, because I don't need to gain any weight, and I was actually 185 pounds at one point in my life, so exercising has become such a huge part of my life, so I can't just eliminate it (although I've made a concious effort to try to cut back). I go back to RE Friday so hopefully we'll get some progress!!
  • @jnissa I too have been told to gain weight. My BMI is low and my dr wants it to be higher. I'm naturally thin and don't work out; I've been this weight since jr. high. How did you gain the weight? I'm trying to eat more cheese, nuts, and avocados. Any tips? I'll do what it takes but I'm also concerned that because I am so small ppl will ask me if I'm pregnant when I gain weight and that will be really hurtful.

  • I made the mistake of using the really long needle that is used to draw up and mix the Menopur liquid and powder as my injection needle! Did that for two days until I realized that I was supposed to switch out the needles on the syringe. I didn't notice any side effects, just a little discomfort on injection site. Good luck to you!
  • laur2444  - It seems like we have a lot in common! I'm also a runner. I work out regularly as well. Since I was told I was underweight and worked out too much I've cut my running back a lot. I went from running 6 miles a day to running only three. Then I went from running three miles a day to only running Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and in intervals. The other days of the week I walk. I also do some moderate lifting, not a lot.. just enough to keep me body toned. Who knew too much of a good thing would make our bodies not work?

jnissa -I'm actually worried about how much weight the hormones might make me gain, if any. I don't want to gain a ton of weight. Obviously I will anyway when I get pregnant. But it's for a good cause! I keep telling myself this. lol

lilmissslp - Eat some cupcakes!! lol

teresaa125 - Oh yikes, that doesn't sound pleasant. Has it worked for you yet? Or did you just start using it?
