Two middle names

anybody decided on two middle names for their new addition? DH and I are keeping our LO's name hushed until arrival. But my aunt suggested a name last night I really liked. LO's current middle name is a family name that DH is set on. I pick my battles. Lol. I know I can throw the other name in there. Any one else doing this or have a double middle name that isn't hyphenated or a typical double name like Mary Kate?

Re: Two middle names

  • I'm personally not a fan, but my niece has two middle names and my SIL added a hyphen to "add pizzazz". To each their own however keep in mind about future paperwork like when it asks for your middle initial, marriage license, job applications. It just might get confusing down the line.

  • Facts! @JSmith42514 I agree. Could get ridiculous. No pizazz hyphens would be used but I agree might be asking for paperwork trouble. I think I'm secretly trying to add another middle name Bc this family name is jus not the jam. Sigh. Good points
  • My husband's cousin gave their last 2 boys 5 total names! It's a mouthful and we can never remember their full names. I think it's a bit excessive. But 2 middle names is better than the 3 they have.
  • I have two middle names and I've never had a problem with paper work. Usually when asked for middle initial I put the letter of the first middle name, only things like SS and license have all four names. I plan on my LG having two middle names as well.

But a serious no to the hyphen....
  • I have two middle names and I love it. I've never had any issues with paperwork. Like PP, I use the initial of the first middle name for most things that don't matter if it is asked of me. Many of the women in my family and DHs family have double middle names but that's due to being European from what I gather and some of the family like to keep it a tradition I guess. My DD has two middle names and this baby will also.

This might sound weird but I like being the only person with my name.
  • My twins will have double middle names its an old German tradiation
  • My son will have two middle names! His father has two and ive always wanted my child to have 2 middle names as well. Ive never seen any body hyphenate MIDDLE names, but if they have 2 last names then thats where you'd hyphenate them
  • I have 2 Middle names and this baby will two. Our other lo's have picked one each which we love so we're using them. They don't know that yet though x
  • A lot of cultures have the tradition of 2 (or more) middle names. Princess Charlotte is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

That being said, forms will be annoying for her entire life.
  • My husband has 2 middle names and hated it so much that as an adult he's basically eliminated them. His legal/official name no longer has any middle names.
  • My oldest has two middle names but that's because my husband's brother passed away while I was pregnant and we had already decided on a name but wanted to add his name in too.

See I'm slightly thinking he may use his middle
Name as his "go by" name since his first is going to be so close to his fathers. Eh. I don't know. He might resent all the names and go by initials :-)

Maybe the kid will eventually feel the same. But it's not a cultural tradition for us. I don't even know if I'll mention it to DH. We'll see.

Yea I wouldn't hyphenate them. That's just odd. I like the idea though. I'll keep
    Thinking on it.
    Thanks!
  • My son will have 2 middle names.  I have always liked the idea, mainly because we have quite a few people to honour so 2 middle names helps!  My SIL and 2 good friends all have 2 middle names so I quizzed them on the pros and cons and all 3 said to go for it.  None have had any issues with paperwork and all love having the 2 middle names.
  • This little girl will have two middle names. One in honor of her paternal grandmother and the other in honor of her maternal grandmother; both of whom passed away in the last year.

My best friend since high school has two middle names. She's never had an issue.
  • I have always like the idea of two middle names, that way you get to pick a name from each side or an extra name that you like
If we have a girl their middle name will be
Eleonore Anne ( DH, Omas name and my Middle Name)
For a boy it will be
Vernon Robert ( DH's name and my Poppas name)
At the end of the day do what feels right
  • I have two middle names and I never minded it! Good luck w making your decision!
  • I suggested a double middle name for this baby if it's a boy, we are team green. But hubby doesn't like the idea. I was trying to add my dad's name in since this is likely our last baby.
