Need more room .

So tonight I was finally able to get caught up with everything and had time to put all LOs things together .
Everything's washed , hung up , Put together , folded in drawers but now I have one issue... I have no more room for anything ! At all ! (Top of closet full , 4 drawer dresser full , bottom of bassinet full )
I have a trash bag full of all the blankets because I have no where to put them :/ and then I have towels, and receiving blankets in the little bit of space that's left next to our LOs clothes In the last drawer . It bothers me because now that drawer is cluttered and you have to move like 5 towels to get to a receiving blanket ...Which isn't something I look forward to having to deal with .

Anyone have any non-tacky alternatives to where I can maybe store LOs towels , washcloths , and blankets ??
(Away from dust, since I live in a really dusty area)

Or if anything something not to pricey if i were to have to go that route .

TIA.

  • I'm sure you could place her older clothing in a bag or something
She prob won't need heaps of clothes to begin anyways, I have heaps of clothes and blankets and stuff but all seems to fit in her wardrobe, under her cot ( blankets ) and in a 2 draw dressed maybe you've accumulated to much stuff?
Not being mean but maybe just go through n see what is really needed n place rest in a storage area?

  • Everything is things that I need that's the problem and I don't even have much clothing..
  • Maybe start stashing blankets all over the house? Some in your room some in the living room so that you always have some that are accessible. I would also put the towels and things in the bathroom not in her bedroom drawers. Just my thoughts.

  • Our LO's towels, wash cloths and bedding are in the linen closet with the rest of the family's. I layered a couple receiving blankets on the back of our glider because it looked pretty. During the colder months we keep a blanket in each of our vehicles. Not sure on your closet set up but we installed a second lower rack that covers about 2/3 of the closet leaving just enough room to hang longer items if needed some day. But that rack nearly doubles the hanging space. I picked up some cloth baskets at target to store socks, diaper covers, leggings, etc. that sit on top of the lower rack for easy access.
  • My daughter' towels/washcloths are in a cupboard in the closet. I think it would be annoying to have them in her room... We are using the same ones with this baby. Blankets are scattered everywhere cause my daughter loves blankets... Before she was old enough to scatter a thousand blankets, they were on a top shelf in her closet. I would just put some around though or maybe in a short plastic storage thing you can shove under a bed or crib if you are trying to keep dust off them. We always have one in the car (in summer for impromptu park/splash pad/picnic trips and in the winter for warmth as needed).
  • With twins and now another almost here I'm always editing what we absolutely need in rotation. For their clothes, I only ever needed one full drawer of clothes (half daytime, half sleepers) and I only ever put in the size they are currently in. Their bottom drawer is sheets and blankets. All other blankets that couldn't fit were stored because I only needed 4-6 in rotation, past that was excessive. I have 5-6 towels and wash cloths in the bathroom. Everything gets washed before it would be an issue of running out.
Just be real with yourself of how much of each item you really need and store the rest. I wash laundry every 2-3 days and I think that's a pretty good rule of thumb. The only thing I would purposely overstock is burp cloths if you've got a baby with reflux. And even then if that's the case, you use them so much they aren't really ever neatly put away.

  • Are you a FTM? I am and I wasn't sure exactly how much of each item was needed. I had my SIL help me narrow down my blankets and towels to a reasonable amount for my storage space and possible washing schedule. It was really helpful. Otherwise I would have felt like everything was necessary.

I am a FTM but I do have experience around other babies so I do know a realistic amount of things I might possibly need. ( although each baby is different) I only have blankets and towels etc I received from my baby shower . Nothing more.
As I said I just don't know where I can put his stuff because I really have no where to set it around at lease not now . When he gets here will be a different story. We have dogs and live in a dusty area so I don't want my LOs stuff just laying around for the mean while . So the drawer is the only option .
But I did get some good ideas on what to do.
  • I'm using white plastic storage drawers for larger clothes and excess items. They fit against one side of the closet so they aren't taking up too much space

  • I've tried to add the little bins anywhere and everywhere I can. Was able to fit a target storage shelf in the closet too. But I totally feel your pain with the small space..I literally have spare diapers in stored in the gun safe. No joke
  • Also is there any wall space you can add some storage shelves to?
  • We bought cheap shelves from Target and then organized items on them using baskets from Michael's (they have 50% off sales aaaall the time). It really helped.
  • Id recommend a space saving bag for under a bed for all the extra blankets.. U won't need them, but they will be there when u do. Also what about a cute shelf with those little storage boxes with lids on top?
  • Is there room under the crib for storage? We have a crib skirt that covers the bottom space so I put baskets under there for blankets, sleep sacks, etc
