Water sonogram

Has anyone else had a water sonogram? I have had an HSG which sounds like a similar procedure. The HSG was pretty uncomfortable with cramping and what not. I am just wondering I should expect the same??? Experiences appreciated :)

Re: Water sonogram

  • I've had a sonohysterogram, but can't remember if that was just too look at whether tubes were open. I think the difference is that they can do a 3D ultrasound and see the shape of the uterus a lot better (and better see polyps, fibroid, etc). I just feel like that was done at a different time but could be wrong given the number of US I've had thus far. That is how I found out about the slight t-shape of my uterus.

If it's the sono piece...not pleasant (a few cramps during), but then that was kind of it.
  • It's not too bad. I have a deviated cervix so the worst part for me is having the catheter placed. Just a little cramping and pressure but it's over very quickly. It's very important, it's how I found out I have polyps. Don't stress over it. Best of luck!

Had one a few weeks ago. Not painful at all. To be honest I felt like I had to pee! I felt a slight constant pressure. Was over in 5 min
    Good luck!
  • Thanks for the information KidShrink. You are right, it is to look at the shape of the uterus. I initially had a diagnostic ultrasound a year ago when I started fertility treatment. My obgyn identified a polyp at that time but did not recommend any surgery as there was the possibility it would resold on its own. I have since had probably 6-8 ultrasounds where they did not see it and the obgyn said it must have resolved naturally which is not uncommon, especially with a heavy cycle. I had the HSG 2 months ago to look at my tubes, one appears obstructed but again my obgyn did not become end surgery as he said it could just be a spasm during the test. I just was referred the the RE and it seems he may be questioning everything my obgyn said...now doctor new tests woo hoo :)
  • I've had it twice. If you have never been pregnant before it can hurt. The first one hurt a lot and the second one wasn't bad at all, I barely noticed, good luck
