Infertility

New-ish and starting IUI...hopefully

Hi all, I've been on and off of these boards. I was on in May 2014 when I got pregnant but then miscarried in June. And then I was on again about 6 months ago when I was TTC, to no avail. Now, I'm back as I'm starting the IUI process. It's been 14 months since we've been trying naturally. Apparently, I have great eggs and DH has 8x the normal sperm count. So no one know why I can't get pregnant. I saw a fertility doctor who basically said "let's get you pregnant and out of here." haha. I liked that attitude. I did get my period this week and now I do baseline tests and ultrasound Friday and also going through finances. I'm praying that insurance will cover this as well as IUI working for us. Fingers crossed please. And my fingers are crossed for all of you.

Re: New-ish and starting IUI...hopefully

  • Sorry for your loss. My GP and RE have a similar attitude, which is nice. RE promised me a pregnancy by the end of the year, so we'll see how that pans out.

We're starting our first IUI cycle probably next weekend. I'm still waiting for the details though. Are you doing only IUI, or taking meds (oral or injectables) too?
  • That's so exciting!! Good luck to you and I hope it takes on the first try. I'm going to start clomid and possibly injections soon. I'll find out more tomorrow I guess. :-) did you do meds and injections? Was there a reason for your infertility or no?

  • We did 3 rounds on Letrozole, Ovidrel and Prometrium in the spring, with timed intercourse. That didn't work, and there was a suspicion of slight uterine anomaly (slightly t-shaped uterus preventing my lining from getting thick enough) and endometriosis. Both were confirmed and fixed through a combination of hysteroscopy, transvaginal endoscopy and laparoscopy. I had endo all the way to my diaphragm...We started TTC 2 years ago, and I was on the BCP for 11 years before that (which technically should have controlled endo I didn't know I had). So now that everything is fixed, it's a race against the clock to get me pregnant before the endo comes back (I still have one small nodule in the wall of my bladder, but he didn't want to mess with that as I'd have to be off from work for a good month as opposed to a week).
We'll be doing max two rounds of IUI and superovulation (not sure yet what meds I'll be on, most likely Letrozole again but combined with injectibles), followed by IVF in the fall if we have to get there.

Good luck to you as well!
  • Oh my! I'm so sorry you had to go through all that. I hope everything works out on the first try. :-) if not then it will eventually. I just know it!!
  • I'm happy I've gone through this prior to having to spend any big bucks (many REs will only propose the surgery once there's been failed IVF attempts or a number of MC). We'll see if 'really messed up for hopefully fixed' works out better than 'unexplained' for me
  • You are an inspiration. Love the positive attitude.
