Baby Items Most Needed in First Few Months?

Hi all -

Apologies if this isn't the best place for this post but I thought it would be a good start.  I'm actually TTGP and active over there, but a good friend is due at the beginning of the August and I missed her baby shower and didn't send a gift from her registry.  I was thinking at this point, I would like to get her a 'basket' of items that new moms most need during their first few months of baby.  Thinking diapers, wipes, things like that.  I was hoping that I could get advice from people going through this/having just gone through this and what you wish you had/would have been nice to have more of. IDK if she plans to breastfeed.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

  • Aside from breastfeeding stuff (I highly recommend Bamboobies nursing pads and Earth angel nipple butter if she is Bf) I loved side snap shirts, MAM pacifiers, gripe water or Gas drops, Aden and Anaos swaddle blankets, happiest baby on the block book, an Ergo or ring along. I also loved it when people gave me snacks, meals and coffee because I barely had time to eat, let alone plan meals. For post delivery a sitz bath, inflatable doughnut for sitting and tucks pads were awesome but those aren't the gifts people usually like to give.

  • Thanks!  We're close so I'm comfortable giving her those things :)  May sound dumb, forgive me - side snap shirts, for baby or mom?

  • For baby. Some people call them kimono style. The hospital have me a few and o bought several more. Especially being a summer baby, my LO spent the first month or so in a side snap shirt and diaper only, so much easier to change a diaper 10-12 times a day and it won't rub on the umbilical cord.

SwaddleMe sleep sacks (with the velcro)!! They are great fot calming my baby down when he's tired/fussy.
  • Coconut oil is a god send ...it's something the baby can ingest and has multiple uses other then for her nipples (ie: face moisturizer, teeth cleaning) pacifier and clips, hand sanitizer (travel size and for her changing table) a&d ointment to prevent diaper rash (works great). Hair brush, mineral oil and head and shoulders (in case of cradle cap) although I've been using dove sensitive body wash on my 2 month old and it works great. Burp clothes and Dr bordeuxs lip and cheek moisturizer ( works great when face is dry)
