Pain..

I have been getting a pain in my upper abdominal area, just under my sternum (where your stomach is) it feels like there is a skin abrasion there, like a rash but there's isn't anything there at all. Idk if maybe I've pulled those muscles...
It doesn't hurt all the time but sometimes when I bend over or reach up it hurts like it's burning. I have no idea what's going on with it... I'm going to ask my Dr at my next visit, but anyone else have any ideas what it might be?

maybe it's just the baby putting pressure on your ribcage. Hope it's nothing serious :-/ hope everything goes well at your next doctors appointment.

  • I've had the burning sensation you are describing for a few months now. My Dr said it's the skin stretching and not something to worry about. Apparently it can be common.

Yup have it now and had it with my first.
I will say there is no pain associated with the feeling , it's more of a burning, tingling sensation. If you are in pain from it , consult your doctor.

  • I have it too. I talked with the nurse about it and she thinks it's the muscles stretching. Mine feels very sore and bruised by the end of the day.
  • I have had this pain too. Along with many other weird pains. In our case almost every pain and ache is "normal" when I bring it up. It's either your round ligament pains or muscles stretching because baby is growing or has shifted positions. I also get that pain when baby kicks the same spot for a few days. Ask your dr to be sure though !
  • I have this as well. Sometimes it's burning / tingling and sometimes it's numbness! I just figured it was stretching skin. Its more irritating than painful, really.

Me too. Annoying, yes. Dangerous, no.
  • Sounds like it is probably diastasis recti. I experience similar pain in both pregnancies.

Check out this article about muscles stretching during pregnancy:

  • I have this issue as well. My midwife suggested that it is the baby pushing against the xiphoid process (basically the pointy end of your sternum). As she grows she's pushing my parts more forcefully against that area, which is why it hurts more the later my pregnancy goes.
