Breastmilk and daycare

I've been pumping and freezing breastmilk for about a month now. When I go back to work, I still want my baby to get breastmilk although he will be in daycare. What is the best way to thaw frozen breastmilk? It sounds like a silly question but I feel like there must be a right and wrong way.

Re: Breastmilk and daycare

  • I just take my frozen milk out of the freezer the day before I plan on using it and put it in my fridge.

Yes, this.  You should use thawed milk within 24 hours, though, so make sure to take it out the evening before.  In a pinch, you can put the frozen bag of milk in a cold bowl of water, and it will thaw much quicker.
  • Loading the player...
  • I have the Kiinde bottle warmer with instructions for how long it takes to thaw freezer bags. It just takes a few more minutes. Same concept of bowl of warm water.
  • Take out what you're going to need the night before then put it in bottles before taking it to daycare. Also the bottles will have to be in a bag to keep them separate in the daycare fridge. A large ziplock one works well.
