A few weeks ago, we decided if we had a girl, her name would be Hazel Kathryn. Now we are trying to decide spelling. I should mention the Kathryn spelling is the way dhs grandmother's name is spelled. Which do you prefer?

Re: Kathryn or Katherine

  • I prefer Kathryn, in this case, because of the family connection.

  • My sister is Kathryn and shortened to Kathy. I had a ton of friends when I was younger that were Katherine, they went by Katie. So maybe part of what to consider too is what nn is most common with each spelling and which nn you like best.
  • Thank you!
  • I say Kathryn because of the family connection. That is my daughters middle name as well, since that's how my mom spells it :)

  • I said Kathryn because that was
  • Oops! Toddler helping - my great
Grandmother spelled it that way, so we will be spelling it that way if we have a girl
  • My middle name is Kathryn and for some reason always liked having it be spelled a bit differently since it's a fairly common middle name. Plus it's how your grandmother spelled it. FYI - my best friend's daughter is Hazel Kathryn (also because of a grandmother) too! Such a pretty name.
  • I prefer Katherine and voted as such, but Kathryn is fine too and given the family connection I could understand choosing that variation.

I like Kathryn because of the family connection
  • Usually I would pick Katherine or Catherine, but given the family significance I think you should stick with Kathryn.
  • Thank you all! I am just responding because I have had NO service while away for a week.

    Samesies.

I third that. If there was no connection I would prefer Katherine but since there is a history and family connection spell it Kathryn.
  • I'm a Katherine and I've never had to spell it for anyone, so I'd stick with that
