No Info. on baby's status/size/orientation since March?

Evening all! I was just wondering, after seeing everyone posting about their babies measuring in the whatever percentile, measuring big/ small, turned down/ breach when you guys got this information from your OB's? I have Kaiser and we literally have not gotten any information on the size/orientation or anything for our baby girl since the ultrasound and gender reveal at the end of March. Just the routine: my weight, pee in a cup, measure my belly, check baby's heartbeat, how are you feeling, good? Okay bye, appointments.
Now that I am going in for my 35-36 week appointment tomorrow and we are getting down to the wire I really feel like we need to know this information. Do you think it would be inappropriate for us to ask if it is not part of tomorrows appointment already? Thanks in advance for the help. =D

Re: No Info. on baby's status/size/orientation since March?

  • I have no idea, to be honest.  I think this is pretty normal too.  They have palpated my belly and think shes breech, but still no ultrasound to "validate" that.  I was told they'll check the breech position in my next appointment.  Big/small is never checked, but via fundal height I'm measuring a week ahead.  But that's a silly estimate, so I don't worry about that much!

  • You will prob get an ultrasound in your next appointment. I always ask what the next appointment will entail but it really bothers me that they don't guide you to begin with. Sometimes I feel since this is so routine for docs they forget to keep you informed... My appointments have sounded the same since week 20 and I am now 36 w which will involve an ultrasound.
  • I wouldn't say you'll probably get an ultrasound. A lot of practices don't do them after the anatomy scan unless there's a medical need. Your doctor may be able to feel the position of the baby by palpating your abdomen and I think it's very appropriate to ask if you're wanting to know. Worst thing that happens is they say they can't definitively tell and then hopefully you can discuss what the process is from that point on.
  • I wasnt counting on any more ultrasounds but when I asked about the position of my baby because he sure felt sideways she immediately pulled out the machine and checked. Wouldn't hurt to ask.
  • It's normal not to have another ultrasound after your anatomy scan. The only reason some doctors do extra scan is based on your measurements more if they feel like something might be wrong. I am at a high risk practice so they give most patients and ultrasound at 36 weeks also. Don't worry but I would ask the question because you never know what the answer is.
  • Yes your appointments sound like mine, except my doctor palpated my stomach to check position this last time. Baby was head down so all good. If there had been indications of poor position she would have done an ultrasound to confirm breech.

She says there is no way to accurately predict weight, even from an ultrasound, and I believe her.

Why not ask your doc about palpating for position?

  • I'm low risk and was only given 2 ultrasounds, which I'm told is completely standard procedure. My doc doesn't tell me much about anything either unless I specifically ask. Just speak up and you'll get the info you're looking for.
  • Thanks for the advice everyone. =D As a FTM I just didn't know what was normal or not. We will ask her to try to find out the position of the baby tomorrow if she doesn't already have it in the plan. Other than that I guess we will just wait and see. Thanks!
  • Sounds completely normal. I only had the anatomy scan. No idea on "the size" of the baby, dilation, position etc. I trust the experts and know that if there were any concerns they would tell me. And vice versa, if I had concerns I would speak up.

  • My appts sound like yours. I haven't has u/s since the anatomy scan. Baby was trnsverse then. I asked my doc at my last visit (32w4d) when she would check babies position, as I think he is still transvserse, and she said she doesn't worry about position until week 35/36. I would just ask. :)

  • I asked at my last appt at 30 weeks if they'd do another ultrasound and he answer was no. The dr said if a medical issue comes up and it becomes necessary, they will but so far everything is going well and not to expect one. Total bummer!

But at my next apt, I totally plan on asking again. Never hurts to ask!
  • It's normal to not have another ultrasound after your anatomy scan. It has nothing to do with your insurance. I have had different insurance for each of my 3 pregnancies and never had an u/s after the anatomy scan. As long as you are measuring appropriately (and there are no other reasons you are high risk ie have GD etc) there is no reason to check the size of the baby. My Drs always check position by palpating my belly.

^^^this. Most of the time if your getting multiple ultrasounds it's because you are high risk or something isn't right. If you have any questions or concerns always talk with your ob. :)
  • You can ask all of that information... Your doctor can give you decent answers based on what they feel.

  • You can actually get a pretty good idea of baby's position just from palpating the belly. My OB checks position before looking for the heartbeat so that she knows where to put the Doppler. She gets it right away every time. So if they are consistently finding the heartbeat quickly, chances are they already know the position.

P.S. My OB said they usually find the heartbeat around the baby's shoulder, so that might give you an idea of where baby is too.
  • We haven't seen our anatomy screening. But apparently at 35 weeks they do an ultrasound so hopefully we will get to see him then. I thought this was weird too.
  • Ask! There's no reason to sit silently through appts. Ask all the questions you want, that's half of what the appt is for!

I had to request an ultrasound

The doctor did not intend to do one. Im 36 weeks and the LO weighed in at 5.5lbs yesterday which puts her in the 50% percentile. Doctor didn't seem worried.
