GBS Positive?

Having my third child, first girl, and I'm pretty sure she's already rebelling against me :-) This is the first pregnancy where I am GBS Positive. Anyone else been through this? Understanding that I have to get antibiotics during labor, what if my labor is super fast? How long were you guys on the IV before it kicked in. I've called dr....and am impatiently waiting for a reply.

Re: GBS Positive?

  • I think it's like 3 doses during labour. It's really no big deal. My last 2 came so fast that I wasn't able to get all the medication and the staff were not concerned. They just had to do a few more checks on baby the first 24 hrs to make sure an infection didn't develope. Like I said, it was no big whoop.

  • Had it with my first and they are not even testing this go around since I was positive at my first exam. It's really no big deal. I think they want you to have it 4 hours before delivery. So your doc may want you to go to hospital a little sooner than if you didn't have it. If you deliver too early I think they just do extra testing of the baby.
  • At least 4 hours before delivery and every 4 hours during labor, they want you to have at least 2 doses.
  • Thanks ladies!
  • My midwife told me today that if I do test positive (results will be in Friday) that I will have to stay 48 hours instead of 24 to monitor the baby, in addition to everything everyone else has been saying.
  • @emmiemae08 I didn't even consider that! Thanks for pointing that out. I know I can no longer have membranes swept in the office so I'm starting walking and the yoga ball every day now just to naturally "enhance" my body.
