GD and steroid shotS **update**

So, they've decided to go ahead with the steroid shots. Just had the first one and after only 45mins my bgl shot up 35points with no food/drink. I have to have the 2nd one tomorrow afternoon. My kidneys are now screaming at me and I can't seem to get comfy. Not to mention, they don't warn you the shots hurt like hell. Oh well, anything to keep this little girl in longer!! Thanks for all the help

Have any of you ladies who have GD been told anything about getting a steroid shot to strengthen the babies lungs? I'm in L&D again and was told by the nurse the doctor ordered it, but when he came by he said we would forego it for now because of my GD. He doesn't want my sugar levels to
Go crazy. I'm so worried that not having the steroid shots will hurt more than having them. Any advice? Doc will be back in a few hours, but until then my nurse keeps telling me to trust him.

I am diabetic and have pe. My doc said the steriod shot is a last result bc it skyrockets your sugars. He told me it would be a minimum 4 day hospital stay to monitor sugars and double the insulin dose.

That's what I'm seeing when I google it. I plan to check with him tonight, but the nurse is telling me not to expect him until the morning, as he already gave them orders for the night.

Those shots DO hurt like hell! I flipped out when the injection hit and it felt like liquid fire In my butt cheek. I imagine that's what being turned into a vampire feels like amirite

Precisely my thought!! Worst part was I couldn't lay on my left ass cheek and my right kidney hurts like hell...so I get to sit, which brings up BP and HR and they get all paranoid.

I have Pre-E and just got my steroid shots...kidneys hurt like a b!tch!

Thank you! They tried telling me the shot and the pain were not related. The pain sucks!! I'm sorry you are going thru it too!

I was on pitocin after my csection last time and the pain meds wore off. I was crying my eyes out in pain asking when the pitocin bag would be done and was told "it's not the pitocin making you hurt"

I guess all L&D nurses will lie to you about what's causing you pain... >:P

I agree @emmacake08. I don't like being lied to, and it's even worse when they make me feel stupid telling me it's not related, but yet the pain didn't start until 10mins after the steroid shot. I'm dealing with it, but ready for some relief, especially since I'm guessing it'll get worse tomorrow after the 2nd shot.

Mine was significantly worse after the second shot...I'm 2 days post shot and the pain is just now starting to ease. No one told me it would cause any pain.

@carriebelle77, I'm sure this will be me. My BGL is already high enough after the first one that I have had to have 6 extra doses of insulin. Not fun!! They've also restricted my diet even more for a few days so it doesn't go up too high. The pain kept me awake all night and at 4:30 this morning, I finally had enough and begged for pain meds just so I could sleep. By 6:30, they are no longer working and I'm sitting in bed crying and bumping. BUT, I can honestly say, as miserable as I am, if it'll help my little girl, I will do it as many times as need be.
