Shift work?

Any STMs out there with husbands who work shift work? I am just curious to see how you made it through the first couple of months. My husband is a process technician and works a crazy schedule. When he is on days he goes to sleep around 7-9pm and heads off to work at 330am. Nights aren't so bad he wakes up around noon and leaves at 4pm. I am just worried about the baby waking him up, which is ridiculous I know. Should I make an effort to take the baby out of our room when he wakes up to nurse or am I overreacting?

Re: Shift work?

  • Just my opinion, but he is a parent too, and will need to understand that just because he is working you are not going to tiptoe around. Good luck momma!

  • My husband is a federal correctional officer and works shifts. When he's on days, he wakes up at 3. When we had our first son, he was just as involved as I was. I was exhausted and so was he. He understood that we were both involved together despite the circumstances.

  • I work nights. I even had hubby bring in baby number one to nurse while I slept

  • My DH worked a swing shift, 6 days a week, with our first and is back to a swing now but only 5 days. DS only stayed in our room for about a week because it just didn't work for me, but I still had the monitor on so the potential for DH to hear him was still there. If he woke up he just went right back to sleep, it wasn't a big deal. Dont worry about nursing right now. You will figure out what works for you. Nothing is set in stone so if what you are doing doesn't work then just change it until you find what does work.
